مستخلص: Voter participation in elections is the cornerstone of U.S. democracy, yet there is a history of voter suppression and intimidation tactics that specifically target Black Americans which did not cease in the twenty-first century, it merely transformed. Teachers can help students get ahead of voter suppression efforts by making sure students realize that voter suppression is part of the nation's past and its present. This article presents a critical digital media literacy tool that students (and all consumers of digital media) can use to analyze election-related posts on social media. It combines aspects of digital media literacy as presented by Common Sense Media and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for State Social Studies Standards. The authors demonstrate this tool by using it to analyze an image posted on Twitter one week before the 2016 presidential election.
