Este relatório de estágio foi elaborado no âmbito da conclusão do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária e teve como objetivo a exposição do tema “Urgências Cirúrgicas Gastrointestinais em pequenos animais”. Inclui uma abordagem teórica com conteúdo relacionado ao tema, nomeadamente as ocorrências gastrointestinais que são consideradas urgências cirúrgicas e com as quais os clínicos podem ser confrontados. As cirurgias de urgência gastrointestinal são das mais frequentemente encontradas em ambiente hospitalar e necessitam da identificação célere dos sinais clínicos associados, de um diagnóstico eficaz para que se decida sobre o tratamento da forma mais correta e do conhecimento das técnicas cirúrgicas mais eficientes na resolução dos problemas. Começando no esófago e percorrendo todo o trato até aos intestinos, são variadas as complicações que podem surgir, desde o aparecimento de corpos estranhos ou disfunções anatómicas, mas que sendo devidamente acompanhadas e tratadas, e se respeitadas as regras de assepsia, têm geralmente um prognóstico favorável. Este trabalho culmina deste modo, com uma apresentação e descrição de 6 casos clínicos de urgências encontrados e seguidos durante o estágio curricular no hospital veterinário HVS SOS Animal. |

This internship report was written in order to complete the Integrated Master’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine of Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias and aims to expose the topic “Gastrointestinal Surgical Emergencies in small animals”. It includes a literature review with content related to the theme, specifically gastrointestinal occurrences that are considered surgical emergencies and which clinicians can be confronted with. Urgent gastrointestinal surgeries are amongst the most frequently surgeries found in hospitals and require a fast identification of associated clinical signs, an effective diagnosis in order to decide on the most correct treatment and knowledge of the most efficient surgical techniques to solve the problems. Beginning in the esophagus and running through the entire tract to the intestines, there are several complications that can arise, from the appearance of foreign bodies or anatomical dysfunctions, but that being properly monitored and treated, and if the rules of asepsis are respected, they usually have a good prognosis. Thus, this work culminates with a presentation and description of 6 clinical cases of emergencies found and followed during the curricular internship at the veterinary hospital HVS SOS Animal. |
