Created with fewer than 60 members, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) now numbers more than 95 million. From a revolutionary party that emerged in the aftermath of the collapse of the Chinese Empire and World War I, it became, in 1949, a political regime in its own right, a party-state dominating the world’s most populous country. Almost every aspect of Chinese people’s lives has changed under the Party’s rule, and its influence is now global. |
