الوصف: The application of behavioral therapy or modern behavioral therapy as a systematic approach has a 35-year history in Iran. This chapter discusses the therapy of Javad, a youth who experienced a marginal social class status and who presented with anger, depression, and anxiety. Treatment began with cognitive and behavioral methods, focusing on enhancing the client's understanding of asthma and its potential association with the client's nose deviation/deformation. The therapy plan also included the following: participating in an anger management program; planning for various life activities; rebuilding cognitive processes; discussing the relationship between thoughts and emotions; changing his thinking pattern and mindset, along with learning stress-and anxiety-management techniques; learning effective and competent confrontation skills; training in life skills; and building/providing social support. This case emphasizes that contemporary CBT underscores the importance of the culture-specific variables in the treatment of psychological problems. © 2015 by the American Counseling Association.
