The flame‐retardant properties of several compounds containing phosphorus bonded to ( a ) nitrogen and ( b ) carbon have been studied with particular reference to their behaviour on cotton under alkaline laundering conditions. The compounds containing P‐N bonds are not suitable for use as permanent flameproofing agents. Polymers containing P‐C bonds are much more promising. These findings are discussed in relation to the chemical structures involved. |
