| الوصف: | El artículo aborda la noción según la cual en la Edad Media la idea de una tierra plana formaba parte esencial del paradigma cosmológico dominante. Tras examinar el origen y la transmisión de los principales argumentos que la ciencia antigua legó a los estudiosos medievales aportando indicios y pruebas de la forma (casi) esférica de la tierra, se presta asimismo atención a ciertos partidarios antiguos y medievales de modelos alternativos, para llegar a la conclusión de que a lo largo de la Edad Media el paradigma científico general incluía la noción de una tierra esférica. La creencia (errónea) según la cual la ciencia medieval se habría decantado por una tierra plana parece, así, pertenecer a la categoría de prejuicios mantenidos en época contemporánea contra la Edad Media en su conjunto. ; The article addresses the notion that in the Middle Ages the idea of a flat earth was an essential part of the dominant cosmological paradigm. Having examined the origin and transmission of the main arguments that ancient science gave to medieval scholars by providing evidence and evidence of the (almost) spherical form of the earth, attention is also paid to some old and medieval supporters of alternative models, to conclude that throughout the Middle Ages the general scientific paradigm included the notion of spherical earth. The (erroneous) belief that medieval science would have opted for a flat land thus appears to belong to the category of contemporary prejudice against the Middle Ages as a whole. |
