Introduction: To compare the basal levels and intercycle variability of antimullerian hormone (AMH) in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients and normoresponder infertile patients during controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with exogenous follicule stimulating hormone treatment. Material and Method: This study was carried out prospectively between May 2009 and April 2011 in IVF and Infertility Units of our hospital. There were 30 patients with the diagnosis of PCOS, and 30 patients with the diagnosis of normoresponder infertility. Patients were grouped into three. Fifteen patients with PCOS were treated with long luteal gonadotropine releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist protocole in the IVF unit (Group I). Fifteen of the PCOS patients were treated with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation and intrauterine insemination (Group II). Normoresponder infertile patients in the control group who were not polycistic, were treated with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation and intrauterine insemination (Group III). AMH levels were measured at different times during menstrual cycle (basal (early follicular), ovarian pick up/intrauterine insemination (OPU/IUI), luteal) in each patient. Basal levels and intercycle variability of AMH in PCOS and normoresponder infertile patients during controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with exogenous follicule stimulating hormone treatment was compared. Results: Patients with PCOS and normoresponder infertility were similar regarding age, body mass index (BMI), and duration of infertility. AMH levels in PCOS patients and control group were compared; Basal AMH (BAMH), OPU/IUI AMH, and luteal AMH (LAMH) levels were significantly different between the two groups (p < 0.001). AMH levels in the PCOS patients were 2-2.5 times higher than the control group. Total gonodotropine dose used was higher in the PCOS patients (p < 0.001) but cycle cancellation, duration of stimulation, and endometrial thickness at hCG day were similar in two groups.
