الوصف: | The purpose of this study was to find out the relationships between adolescent bullying, substance use and the self – control and to clarify the role of self – control in the relationship between bullying and substance use. There were 205 participants who are the students of the progymnasium in Kaisiadorys. 112 (54,6 %) of participants were boys and 93 girls; the age was 13 – 15, average 13,67. Students were interviewed during the lessons with the permissions of the school director and adolescents’ parents. The school psychologist helped to administrate the questionnaires. Bullying and adolescents roles in it were measured with R. Povilaitis and J. Valiukevičiūtė (2006) questionnaire, the use of substance was assessed with the questions from R. Jessor et al. (1992) Health Behavior Questionnaire which ask about the use of tobacco, alcohol, marihuana and other psychoactive substance. Self – control was assessed by J. Tangney et al. (2004) Self – Control Scale. The results of the study have shown that adolescents who are involved in bullying are taking more psychoactive substances. Students whose role in bullying is bully/victim are taking more alcohol than bully or victim. Also became clear that adolescents who involved in bullying have lower self – control than not involved students and bully/victim self – control is lower than not involved students. Adolescents who use tobacco, alcohol or other psychoactive substances have lower self – control than non – users. There is a higher possibility to use various substances if student has a lower self – control and are involved in bullying. Finally, self – control is a mediator in the relationship between bullying and the use of psychoactive substances. |
