| الوصف: | This paper analyzes the effect on provinces with lower population density due to the reduction in number of assembly members. The research begins with a historical review of democracy, in order to understand it’s creation and the influence that representative democracy has on the form of government. Subsequently, democracy in Ecuador was analyzed and how it influences the political life of the country, based on the mechanisms of citizen participation, with which the inhabitants of the State can participate directly and indirectly in decision making. In this context, the National Assembly is composed of representatives elected by the citizens through suffrage, and, being a function of State, inter alia, its primary duties are to legislate and oversee. The article contains information to learn about its function and importance, in order to subsequently understand the effects of a decrease in political representation. For its elaboration, a qualitative approach was used, through a bibliographic exploration, such as the use of scientific articles that provided the relevant proportional information on the research problem. In addition, surveys were used to know the perspective that people had about the assembly members and their knowledge about political representation in each province. Finally, it was concluded that the decrease effects the political representation of the provinces with smaller populations, compared to others that outnumber them by a large percentage. ; Este trabajo analiza la afección para las provincias con menor densidad poblacional a causa de la reducción en el número de asambleístas.
