الوصف: |
The famous man-eating lions of Tsavo, mounted in a group habitat diorama next to their original skulls. The lions were killed in 1898, after a nine month reign of terror, by Lt. Col. John Henry Patterson who kept the pelts as floor rugs before selling them to the Field Museum in 1925. Julius Friesser restored the lions by mounting them as taxidermy specimens and displaying them in a diorama. In his original account Patterson claimed the lions killed 135 railway workers and native Africans. Since the 2000s, scientists have been studying the lions’ skeletons and pelts and revised the estimate and surmised that the lions ate closer to 35 humans. |
