الوصف: Twelve amphiphilic complexes of 2–(N-hexadecylcarbamoyl)-8-hydroxy quinoline have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, conductivity measurement, room temperature magnetic moments, spectral (IR, electronic and fluorescent) and thermogravimelric analyses. In the IR spectra, a linear relationship between the v(C-O) frequency of the C-O-M bond of the complexes and the relative atomic weight of the central metal ions and a linear relationship between the v(C-O) frequency and the ionization potential of the centraJ metal (M → M2+(g) + 2e) were obtained. These complexes appeared to fall into two groups. One is the close-shell metal ion complexes, the other is the transition'metal ion complexes. All of them emit fluorescence at room temperature and can form stable monolayers and be deposited as uniform Langmuir-Blodgett films, which can be used in the architecture of electroluminescent devices.
