مستخلص: We describe scalar quantum electrodynamics by a gauge-invariant effective average action Γk. This is obtained by integrating out the quantum fluctuations with “momenta” larger than kin a gauge-invariant way. Our method can deal successfully with the infrared problems of perturbation theory in less than four dimensions or at high temperature. The dependence of Γkon the infrared cutoff kis given by an exact evolution equation.
