The article offers information on the status of jaguar Panthera onca in Pantanal as a well preserved biome compared to other biomes in Brazil. Original vegetation cover in the Pantanal plain, it says, is at 85% while 50% of original vegetation in the Upper Paraguay watershed has been altered. Extent of occupancy (EOO) of jaguars in Pantanal is estimated at 63% and density is 7.0 jaguars for every square kilometer (sq km) area.
