مستخلص: The article discusses the role of proteolytic enzymes and antienzymes in inflammation. The author notes that proteolytic enzyme activity increases during inflammation and comments that the order of the appearance of proteases such as chymotrypsin, aminopeptidases and carboxypeptidases during the inflammation process can be predicted depending on the type of inflammations, such as the Arthus reaction. An experiment in which dextran was injected into rats and protease activity measured revealed equilibrium between protease and antiprotease activity. The use of antiproteases to treat burns and the rejection of organ transplants is noted.
