Researchers from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London have conducted a study on a new home-administered treatment for binge eating disorder (BED). The treatment combines transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a brain stimulation technique, with a training program that targets unhelpful patterns of attention around food. The study found that the treatment was feasible and potentially effective, with participants who received real tDCS with attention bias modification training (ABMT) experiencing significant reductions in binge eating episodes and improvements in mood and weight loss. The researchers believe that this home-based treatment could offer a new approach to treating BED and reach individuals who may find it difficult to access community-based treatment.
