A report from Capital Medical University in Beijing, China discusses the use of endovascular cooling in patients with large acute ischemic strokes (AIS) after recanalization. The study analyzed AIS patients who achieved successful recanalization after endovascular treatment and were divided into a targeted temperature management (TTM) group and a non-TTM group. The TTM group received systemic cooling with a targeted core temperature of 33 degrees for at least 48 hours. The study found that the TTM group had a higher proportion of favorable outcomes at 90 days compared to the non-TTM group, although there were no significant differences in secondary outcomes. The researchers concluded that further randomized clinical trials are needed to validate the efficacy of postrecanalization cooling in patients with a large ischemic core.
