A systematic scoping review conducted by researchers at the University of Technology Sydney explores the use of psychedelics and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy in the treatment of eating disorders (EDs). The review analyzes existing evidence and participant perspectives on the efficacy of psychedelics for ED symptoms. The findings suggest that many participants reported a reduction in symptoms and positive experiences with psychedelics, although concerns about adverse effects and the need for psychological support were also noted. The researchers conclude that while preliminary research shows promise, further studies with stronger designs are necessary to establish the efficacy, safety, and generalizability of psychedelics as a therapeutic option for EDs.
