مستخلص: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a frequently diagnosed cancer in horses, particularly in the equine eye. It is a type of cancer that starts within skin cells or the lining of internal organs. SCC is commonly found in or around the eye, the genitalia and anus, and the lips and nose. Early detection is crucial, as the tumor initially appears as a small, raised lump or nodule under the skin. Treatment options include surgical removal, cryotherapy, radiation, chemotherapy, and photodynamic dye therapy. Regular monitoring of the horse's skin and reducing exposure to UV radiation can help prevent SCC. Researchers have also identified an equine gene variant that is a risk factor for ocular SCC in certain breeds. [Extracted from the article]
