مستخلص: Health disparities across the U.S. are associated with economic and educational gaps that must be mitigated by policy change and new approaches in healthcare education. Students in various fields of health care must gain basic knowledge of the disparities between races, including the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. In addition to the associated causes and preventions, complex relationships between poor health and social circumstances must be approached. To encourage students in all fields of health care to have a greater impact in helping alleviate this issue, cultural competence should be part of healthcare program curricula. Exposing students to opportunities in the community, such as volunteering at local health clinics and mobile units, allows them to understand the impact of their chosen field on improving the health of the underserved.
