مستخلص: This trial examined the use of itraconazole in patients with tinea capitis who were either unresponsive to or unable to tolerate griseofulvin therapy. Tinea capitis is a common fungal infection in prepubescent children living in urban areas. Although griseofulvin is still considered the gold standard for the treatment of tinea capitis, and in fact remains the only oral agent approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of this infection, not all patients respond to or can tolerate griseofulvin. This report indicates that itraconazole is both a safe and an efficacious alternative to griseofulvin for the treatment of fungal infections of the scalp and hair.
