مستخلص: Samples of nanocarbon are prepared by activation of local sand using highly concentrated caustic soda solutions followed by carbon deposition with an organic source of carbon such as furfuryl alcohol. The nanocarbon deposits are then freed from sand by reaction with hydrofluoric acid, 30 %. Textural characteristics of nanocarbon is determined by nitrogen adsorption at 77 K by which Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) surface area and pore size distribution were determined. Pore volumes were computed from N2 adsorption data applying the non localized density function theory (NLDFT). Nanocarbon samples were used in desulfurization of a model diesel fuel composed of n-C10H34 and dibenzothiophene (DBT) as sulfur containing compound. More than 90% of DBT is adsorbed in the first 1 hour which gradually increases to 94% in 8 h. The adsorption data were fitted to both Freundlich and Langmuir equations to estimate the adsorption parameters. Kinetic study shows that the adsorption process data follow first order model.
