مستخلص: In linear wave propagation, the duration of a pulse must ultimately increase with propagation in a dispersive medium. However, it is shown that the local duration, defined in terms of the conditional standard deviation in phase space, does not increase. Similarly, while the duration-bandwidth product increases as the pulse propagates, the local duration-bandwidth product decreases. Moreover, the local duration-bandwidth product is upper bounded by the (global) duration-bandwidth product of the wave. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
