This article focuses on how travel agents and operators have been left to handle hundreds of refunds after Moroccan no-frills airline Atlas Blue cancelled its Gatwick-Marrakesh flights. Atlas Blue, an offshoot of Royal Air Maroc, was set up just over a year ago to exploit the growing short-break market to Marrakesh. The no-frills airline, which has suspended flights until September 14, 2005 originally denied it had planned to fly twice a week in the summer. Atlas Blue's cancellation of flights is an embarrassment for Morocco and particularly Marrakesh, which is to host the ABTA Travel Convention in November 2005. |
