مستخلص: The article examines whether law enforcement support is the missing key to ensure the effectiveness of syringe service programs (SSP) in U.S. rural areas in preventing the transmission of infectious disease in people who inject drugs (PWID). Cited are the case of the Kanawha County Health Department SSP in Charleston, West Virginia which shows the role of public opinion in influencing policy, and the findings of a study aimed at determining the barriers and facilitators to using SSP.
