Russia's Volga-Dnepr, the heavy lift specialist airline that recently entered the scheduled cargo arena with the launch of subsidiary Air Bridge Cargo, continues to look for new transit points in its home country. Believing that Russia's vast airspace is the ideal" bridge" for moving freight between Asia and Europe, Volga-Dnepr has signaled that it wants to establish more hubs in Russia. Volga-Dnepr President Alexey Isaikin spearheaded the establishment last month of a working group to explore the development of a cargo hub in Krasnoyarsk, an East Siberian city with a population of three million and surrounded by a territory rich in raw materials that is home to plants producing chemicals, aluminum, wood products and synthetic rubber. The group has agreed to develop a long-term program of regional and international cargo flights via Krasnoyarsk Airport. |
