The article discusses the potential role of glucagon in the development of diabetic hyperglycemia. It notes that there is a link between increased levels of gut derived glucagon and the severity of the diabetic phenotype. According to a 2011 study, the inhibitory effects of glucagon on hepatic glucose uptake can be overcome by insulin. It highlights the important role of skeletal muscles in glucose disposal. It explains how glucagon deficiency can alter glucose disposal by muscle. |
