The article discusses normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), an often unrecognized cause of dementia symptoms which can be reversible with appropriate diagnosis and treatment. 375,000 elderly Americans misdiagnosed with dementia or Parkinson's disease have been found to have symptoms that were actually caused by NPH. NPH diagnosis is difficult and is often based on a combination of clinical signs and symptoms, radiographic findings and confirmatory testing. |
