This article reports that Ocean Optics Inc. has recently been issued two new U.S. patents, reinforcing the company's lead in next-generation spectrometer technology. According to the author, the patented process of producing silver reflecting layers in dielectric thin films results in coatings with extremely high reflectivity. The dielectric coatings protect the silver from oxidation and improve reflectivity. The patented tuneable variable bandpass optical filters are mainly useful for spectrally shaping the excitation energy from broadband sources used for fluorescence. |
