The International Journal of Molecular Sciences has published a special issue titled "Mitochondrial Research: Yeast and Human Cells as Models 2.0," which features six open-access papers that explore the intricate mechanisms of mitochondrial biology and dysfunction. The papers cover a range of topics, including the role of mitochondrial proteins in cellular processes, a new technique for measuring mitochondrial function in individual cells, the effects of viral infection on mitochondrial dynamics and respiratory chain function, the involvement of mitochondria in regulated cell death, the interplay between cell cycle regulation and mitochondrial metabolism, and the functions of long non-coding RNAs encoded by mitochondrial DNA.
