مستخلص: Fossil fuel types of diesels are getting depleted, biodiesel is emerging as an alternative. Biodiesel is derived from vegetable oil sourced from used cooking oil through a transesterification process. Biodiesel has poor viscosity and atomization in engine performance. Therefore, the use of n-Pentanol as an additive has good viscosity and atomization on engine performance due to the high oxygen content and reduced smoke opacity. This study aims to determine the physiochemical properties of the engine performance testing using the Diesel Engine Isuzu Panther TBR 2300cc body, 4 cylinders and smoke opacity using the Technotest MOD 515 Plus Analyzer. The research started with the transesterification process, after biodiesel was produced, mixing it with diesel and adding the additive n-Pentanol. The sample results are D100, B100, B10, B20, B10nPen10, and B20nPen20. The results showed that the physiochemical properties of the components of the B100 compound were methyl oleate with a peak area of 60.22% with alkene, aromatic, and ether functional groups. The highest density is Biodiesel B20 with a value of 0.8 kg/l. The highest viscosity is at B20 with 5.5875 cSt. The highest flash point is B20 with 98℃. The highest low heating value is D100 with 10745.8551 kcal/kg. Engine performance in the form of the highest Brake Torque D100 with 8.9 Nm 1000 rpm. Maximum brake power is D100 with 16.4200 PS 1400 rpm. The lowest material brake specific fuel consumption is D100 with 3,099 kg/hour. The highest smoke opacity is D100 with 82% 1000 rpm. The lowest opacity is B20nPen20 2200 rpm with 4.333%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
