مستخلص: This study was conducted to examine motives and external factors of obtaining JAKIM halal certification among SMEs food manufacturers. The study employs a survey questionnaire which was distributed to the respondents during pandemic covid-19. A total of 40 completed questionnaires were returned. The results indicated that the main motive for obtaining the halal certification are customer needs and improve company image. Other motives are improved quality of products and improved production process. While the main external factors influencing the respondents to obtain JAKIM halal certification was "to fulfil customer demands". Other external factors followed by "to increase market share", "to increase customer confidence" and "can prevent food poisoning". The least important external factor was "to reduced customer complaints". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
