مستخلص: We performed numerical simulations on photoacoustic conversion in a three-layer structure of polymer layer (PDMS)-metal thin film (Cr)-polymer layer (PDMS) placed on a substrate (glass) to understand the basic mechanism for generation and propagation of acoustic waves. To this end, hyperbolic types of heat conduction and elastic/acoustic wave equations were derived by introducing the Beer-Lambert law and then solved together by applying a finite-difference time-domain method. Results show that the three-layer structure made by adding a polymer layer with excellent thermal expansion to the two-layer structure of metal film-polymer layer absorbs heat to be wasted on a substrate, thereby generating stronger acoustic waves. In addition, since the thinner the metal film, the smaller the heat capacity, the temperature in the metal film and some of the neighboring polymer layers rises higher, resulting in stronger acoustic waves.
