There was no correlation between plasma hormone levels and sodium concentration nor between vasopressin and copeptin plasma concentrations. Vasopressin release is not driven by plasma sodium concentration, and, conversely to chronically ill patients, copeptin cannot be used as a surrogate of vasopressin plasma concentration.
