Initiators of potassium persulfate (KPS) and 4,4-azobis(4- cyanopentanoic acid) (ACPA) were used in the emulsion polymerization of styrene, using sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) as the surfactant at 60 ℃. Initiator of 2,2-azobis(2-amidino-propane) dihydrochloride (AAP) was used in the emulsion polymerization of styrene, using cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as the surfactant at 60 ℃. Increasing the initiator content, the polymerization rate (Rp) increases in the systems of KPS and ACPA, while the Rp decreases in the system of AAP. Data of the average latex particle size always decrease with increasing the initiator content for every system. The polymer number per particle (np) increases with the particle size, and it increases more rapidly when the recipe has the larger particle size. Increasing the initiator content, the initiator capture rate increases, and the capture efficiency decreases.
