Infective endocarditis is defined as inflammation of the endocardium with compromise of the heart valves caused by an infection, mainly of bacterial origin; it remains a serious disease with a mortality rate between 18-30%. La endocarditis infecciosa es la inflamación del endocardio con daño de las válvulas cardiacas de origen infeccioso, principalmente bacteriano; es una enfermedad grave con mortalidad entre 18 y 30%. Se comunica el caso clínico de un paciente que ingresó con datos de evento cerebral vascular de tipo isquémico y posteriormente se realizó el diagnóstico de embolia séptica secundaria a endocarditis infecciosa.
