مستخلص: The article discusses the detection and investigation of an outbreak of listeriosis in South Africa, (2017-2018) and its cause: contaminated polony, or baloney, a low-cost ready-to-eat processed meat produced at a single facility (Facility A) located in Limpopo Province. According to the article, the Listeria monocytogenes ST6 strain was predominantly associated with this outbreak. It mentions whole-genome sequencing and notes that HIV-infected persons represented 44 percent of the 937 cases identified.
