مستخلص: The article reports on the result of a study which examined suicidal behavior among detained juveniles, as well as the relation of suicide to psychiatric disorders. The inquiry was done through administering a Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children covering detainees ranging from 10 to 18 years old in a detention center in Chicago, Illinois. The study revealed that more than one third of juvenile detainees, and almost half of female detainees, expressed pessimism about their situation and had thought about death and suicide six months before their detention. It was concluded that few of the detainees had revealed to their fellow inmates their suicidal ideation, and that suicide is more prone to those who are suffering from depressive and anxiety disorders.
