مستخلص: Moreover, CSF and blood analysis allowed the exclusion of infective causes of limbic encephalitis, such as herpesvirus encephalitides and neurosyphilis. Dear Editor, Isolated bilateral hippocampal damage is a rare and unrecognized complication of drug abuse, i.e. opioids, cocaine, and benzodiazepines [[1]]. Even if the bilateral increased signal in T2 and FLAIR sequences involving both hippocampi and amygdalae could have suggested an autoimmune limbic encephalitis, these latter lesions very rarely enhance with gadolinium, except in about 30% of patients with anti-Ma2 limbic encephalitis [[7]] that was excluded in our case.
