الوصف: La recherche que Weber a engagee dans L’ethique protestante et l’esprit du capitalisme se rapporte aux ressources reflexives et argumentatives (la disposition d’esprit) qui se trouvent au fondement de l’agir social. C’est pourquoi l’attention que le sociologue a portee a un operateur d’ordre theologique (l’analyse du contenu theologique de la Reforme lutherienne) y prend une grande importance. Luther, en rapportant le theme du salut personnel a celui du salut du monde, avait destabilise les criteres les plus significatifs de la reconnaissance sociale ; Calvin, en renforcant le theme de la predestination, present mais peu accentue chez Luther, a rapporte de maniere severe (forcant a l’ascetisme) l’agir social a un horizon dont « l’autre » ne doit plus etre exclu. L’attention portee par Weber a cet operateur ainsi qu’au travail reflexif qu’il a suscite eclaire, dans ses differents detours comme dans son autonomisation progressive vis-a-vis de la theologie, le developpement d’un capitalisme fonde sur l’organisation rationnelle du travail, le capitalisme moderne, celui auquel les theories economiques contemporaines, dans la suite d’Adam Smith, donnent sa coherence. Ces theories ont-elles maintenant acquis l’autorite qui permet de negliger la confrontation historique de l’economie avec un operateur theologique, tracant definitivement l’espace de notre Gehause ? La question que Weber proposait a ses lecteurs a la fin de sa recherche n’a pas cesse de nous solliciter.

الملخص (بالإنجليزية): The study Weber undertook in The protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism is related to the reflexive and argumentative resources (the mental disposition) that constitute the foundation of social action. This explains the importance of his attention to a theological « operator » (analysis of the theological content of the Lutheran Reformation). By linking the theme of personal salvation to that of world salvation, Luther destabilized what were the most meaningful criteria of social recognition ; by bolstering the theme of predestination already present in Luther's thinking but much less salient, Calvin, in a harsh way whose effect was to force believers into asceticism, linked social action to an overall view from which « the other » could not be excluded. Weber's attention to the theological operator and the labor of reflexive thinking it elicited sheds light on the development of capitalism based on rationally organized labor, its various detours as well as the gradual process by which it became autonomous from theology - that is modern capitalism, which acquired its coherence from contemporary economic theories continuous with Adam Smith's. Have these theories now acquired a degree of authority that we may henceforth neglect the historical confrontation between the economy and the theological operator ? Have they drawn the definitive contours of our Gehaüse ? The question Weber puts at the end of his study continues to exercise us. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract (Spanish): La investigación que Weber ha emprendido en L'éthique protestante et l'esprit du capitalisme (La Etica protestante y el pensamiento del capitalismo) se relaciona con los recursos reflexivos y argumentales (la disposición del espíritu) que fundamentan el hacer social. Por eso, la atención que el sociólogo le ha prestado al factor de orden teológico (el análisis del contenido teológico de la Reforma luterana) adquiere aquí una importancia enorme. Lutero, al relacionar el tema de la salud personal con la salud del mundo, había desestabilizado los criterios más significativos del reconocimiento social ; Calvino al reforzar el tema de la predestinación, poco acentuado aunque presente en Lutero, ha relacionado de manera severa (obligando al ascetismo) el hacer social con un horizonte del cual el « otro » no debe ser excluido. La importancia dada por Weber a este factor así como al trabajo reflexivo que ha engendrado, alumbra sus diferentes recovecos como en su autonomización progresiva con respecto a la teología, el desarrollo de un capitalismo fundado en la organización racional del trabajo, el capitalismo moderno, éste al que las teorías económicas contemporáneas, en la continuación de Adam Smith, dan su coherencia. Estas teorías ¿habrán adquirido hoy la autoridad que les permita ignorar la confrontación histórica de la economía con un factor teológico, marcando definitivamente el espacio de nuestro Gehaüse? Abstract (German): Mit seiner Schrift Die protestantische Ethik und der Geist des Kapitalismus hat Weber eine Untersuchung über die gedanklichen und argumentativen Ressourcen (die Gesinnung), auf denen das soziale Handeln gründet, in die Wege geleitet. Daher soll mit Nachdruck auf das Gewicht aufmerksam gemacht werden, das der Soziologe dem theologischen « Operator » (der Analyse des theologischen Gehalts der lutherischen Reformation) zugemessen hat. Indem Luther den Gedanken des persönlichen Heils mit dem des Weltheils verband, hat er die signifikantesten Kriterien des gesellschaftlichen Ansehens ins Wanken gebracht. Indem Calvin dagegen den Gedanken der Prädestination bestärkte, der bei Luther zwar vorhanden ist, aber nur wenig Gewicht hat, hat er das soziale Handeln streng (bis zur Askese) auf einen Horizont bezogen, aus dem « der Andere » nicht mehr ausgeschlossen werden darf. Indem er diesen Operator und die dadurch provozierte Gedankenarbeit hervorhebt, wirft Weber ein neues Licht auf die auf verschiedenen Umwegen und in zunehmender Verselbstständigung gegenüber der Theologie verlaufene Entwicklung eines auf rationelle Arbeitsorganisation begründeten Kapitalismus geworfen, des modernen Kapitalismus also, dem die zeitgenössischen Wirtschaftstheorien, in der Folge von Adam Smith, ihre Kohärenz verleihen. Es stellt sich die Frage, ob diese Theorien heute eine Autorität erlangt haben, die es erlaubt, die historische Konfrontation der Ökonomie mit einem theologischen Operator zu vernachlässigen. Und ist damit endgültig der Raum des uns umschliessenden Gehäuses umzeichnet worden? Die von Weber am Ende seiner Untersuchung aufgeworfene Frage wird seine Leser weiterhin beschäftigen.
