مستخلص: "The Crisis of Global Modernity: Asian Traditions and a Sustainable Future" by Prasenjit Duara and "The Climate of History in a Planetary Age" by Dipesh Chakrabarty are two books that explore the role of humans in the Anthropocene, a proposed new geological epoch defined by the unprecedented impact of humans on the Earth's processes. Duara examines how the pursuit of modernity has led to ecological despoliation and suggests that Asian traditions may provide resources for a sustainable alternative. Chakrabarty argues that humanists need to consider planetary dynamics and the interconnectedness of human and nonhuman life in order to address environmental crises. Both books offer insights into our changing world and emphasize the need to view humans as part of, but not at the center of, the Earth's ecosystem. [Extracted from the article]

الوصف: Abstract The rapidly growing global need for environmentally friendly energy solutions has inspired extensive research and development efforts aimed at harnessing the potential of hydrogen energy. Hydrogen, with its diverse applications and relatively straightforward acquisition, is viewed as a promising energy carrier capable of tackling pressing issues, such as carbon emissions reduction and energy storage. This study conducts a preliminary investigation into effective hydrogen generation and storage systems, encompassing methods like water electrolysis, biomass reforming, and solar‐driven processes. Specifically, the study focuses on assessing the potential of nanostructured catalysts and innovative materials to enhance the productivity and versatility of hydrogen energy systems. Additionally, the utilization of novel materials not only improves hydrogen storage capacity and safety but also opens up possibilities for inventive applications, including on‐demand release and efficient transportation. Furthermore, critical factors such as catalyst design, material engineering, system integration, and technoeconomic viability are examined to identify challenges and chart paths for future advancements. The research emphasizes the importance of fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to advance hydrogen energy technologies and contribute to a sustainable energy future.

الوصف: Industrialization in Newly industrialized countries may be a potential retarding factor for sustainable future. This study examines that transitions towards green alternatives may be driven by technological innovation, urbanization, and industrialization using panel-corrected standard errors regression and quantile regression on data from 1985 to 2020. The empirical results suggest that technological innovation accelerates renewable energy and decelerates non-renewable energy. Conversely, urbanization and trade liberalization reduce renewable energy but increase non-renewable energy while increase in output positively impacts both renewable and non-renewable energy. The findings imply prioritizing technological innovation, sustainable urban planning and development and aligning policies for a successful and sustainable energy transition.

الوصف: Recent projections suggest that wildfires will occur more often and with higher intensity due to the changing climate. In this context, it is vital to educate the population to be ready and prepared to deal with these events. This book chapter reviews the state of the art of educational materials on wildfires worldwide that are available online. A total of 225 references on the matter were retrieved. The materials are from all five continents, involving 36 countries and written in 23 languages. Most of them are from regions with a Mediterranean climate with fire-prone ecosystems in which, for the last decades, wildfires have negatively affected the population. Regarding the target audience, most materials retrieved focused on the general public (about 48%), followed by students from various age groups (around 40%). Written documents, websites, and videos are the most frequent materials for the general public. As for students, a greater variability of pedagogical materials is available, ranging from mobile phone applications and digital and experimental activities to slides for classes and reading materials. The remaining materials focus on the rural population and firefighters’ training. Most references present the main concepts and ecological aspects of fire, along with safety and prevention measures. However, few discuss climate change, recovery, and socio-economic or health concerns. This gap should be addressed in the future wildfire educational materials to better prepare and inform society.

الوصف: In spite of the efforts of the footwear and textile industries to understand their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and develop reduction strategies, knowledge on the subject is still incipient. Given this scenario, this paper aims to identify, quantify, and present the main sources of GHG in this economic sector, followed by proposing solutions aimed at more efficient management. A qualitative and quantitative study was conducted with four companies in southern Brazil to achieve this purpose. Among the main sources of emissions are fuel and energy consumption. The main reduction alternatives include searching for alternative fuels and considering energy generation through clean sources. It is clear that implementing initiatives aimed at reducing emissions is not a simple task. However, the research highlighted the technical feasibility of new forms of production with a reduced environmental impact.

الوصف: Rabbit (RM) has become a valuable source of nutrients since the 1970s, helping to transform the European food industry into the largest RM producer in the world. However, the RM industry is experiencing a critical period of ethical imbalance. This trend, described as feed conversion ratio, impacts the environmental and financial performance of RM farms, which could lead to an increase production of industrial waste. In addition, the loss of corporate ethical responsibility and sustainable development by RM-oriented companies has further exacerbated the situation. Our objective was to summarize current trends in the RM industry and markets, highlighting possible strengths and weaknesses. This review shows current approaches in sustainable techniques in RM production processes, ethical issue, environmental and processing responsibility of RM producers, as well as social responsibilities and ethical practices of slaughterhouses and RM producers, sustainable environmental practices of slaughterhouses, technological aspects and safety of RM and social drivers in RM market. The analysis of reviewed literature revealed the potential strategies for sustainable RM production.
