الوصف: The Working Group on DATRAS Governance (WGDG) aims to align the Database of Trawl Surveys (DATRAS) for the different surveys, to evaluate the database using guidance developed by Data and Information Group (DIG), to oversee, align and advise on requests for further development of DATRAS, and to provide a platform for end-user feedback. WGDG consists of representatives of ICES working groups delivering data to DATRAS: the Baltic International Fish Survey Working Group (WGBIFS), the International Bottom Trawl Survey Working Group (IBTSWG), and the Working Group on Beam Trawl Surveys (WGBEAM), as well as representatives of ICES Data Centre and of DIG. This report contains the main results of the past year’s meetings. The focus in this reporting period (June 2023–May 2024) has, as in previous years, been on alignment of DATRAS over different surveys, the main output being the alignment of species validity code descriptions and DATRAS product content and descriptions.ICES Data Centre released ...

الوصف: The Working Group on Electrical Trawling (WGELECTRA) works on improving knowledge of the effects of electrical or pulse fishing on the marine environment.During the 2023 meeting, the working group considered a discussion on razor clam eletrofishing research trials, the only ongoing research on electrofishing. The final wrap-up of recent research on sole pulse was also highlighted.Topics discussed by the group during the past 3 years confirmed findings that were discussed in the extensive Scientific WGELECTRA report at the end of the previous cycle in 2018. The main conclusion is that the application of electricity to catch fish has many potential applications in technological innovations to improve the sustainability of a fishery by improving the selectivity, reducing unintended bycatch or reduce the impact on the benthic ecosystem.Pulse trawling was banned by the European Union in 2019. As a consequence, no new research on this topic has been approved since then. Due to lack of new research projects, the ...

الوصف: This is a new edition of ` ICES technical guidance for harvest control rules and stock assessments for stocks in categories 2 and 3 ' , ICES Technical Guidelines, https://doi.org/10.17895/ices.advice.19801564Test The new edition includes Clarifications for Method 2 (Methods 2.1, 2.2, 2.3) without changes to the methods. Guidelines for other methods were not changed. Stocks classified in categories 2 and 3 by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) are considered to be "data-limited". This document is designed to provide clear guidance on the rationale, use, and application of methods to assess stock status, provide catch advice, and short-term forecast for stocks of finfish and shellfish in ICES category 2 and 3 using either the MSY approach or the Precautionary Approach. The primary purpose of these guidelines is to outline the best available scientific methods and advice rules to manage these stocks effectively and sustainably. The intended audience includes scientists working with ...

الوصف: Working Group on Science to Support Conservation, Restoration and Management of Diadromous Species (WGDIAD, formerly WGRECORDS), was established to provide a forum for the coordination of work on diadromous species following the disbanding of the Diadromous Fish Committee. The role of the Group is to coordinate work on diadromous species, organize Expert Groups, Theme Sessions and Symposia, and help to deliver the ICES Science Plan. The annual meeting of WGDIAD was held from 20 – 21 September 2022 13.00-17.00, Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland & remotely by MS Teams in a hybrid format. The meeting was chaired by Hugo Maxwell (Ireland) and Dennis Ensing (UK) and was attended by 17 participants in total.WGDIAD received reports from ICES Expert Groups and workshops working on diadromous species and considered their progress and future requirements. During the meeting, the following areas were discussed in more detail:· Outcomes and deliverables from ICES EGs on diadromous fish during the last year, including a ...

الوصف: The Bay of Biscay and the Iberian Coast ecoregion is a highly productive area supporting a wide variety of aquaculture practices and cultured species, including semi-intensive and extensive culture of shellfish and finfish species in the intertidal and estuarine environments.Aquaculture licensing, regulation, and policy within the ecoregion are the responsibility of the individual EU Member States (France, Spain, and Portugal). While overarching policy is defined at the European and national level, licensing processes can be different at a subnational level.Total aquaculture production in 2021 in the ecoregion reached 310 000 tonnes, amounting to EUR 769 million in farm sales value. Cultivation of shellfish, mainly oysters and mussels, is the most prominent type of production; contributing upto 73% of the total value of aquaculture production in the ecoregion, while production of finfish contributes about 25%. A number of other species groups, such as crustaceans, polychaete worms, seaweeds, and microalgae ...

الوصف: The guidelines describe the issues related to the provision of advice for fisheries that occur concurrently on multiple stocks of the same species. They provide guidance on how such advice should be formulated under circumstances with different levels of information about stock mixing in these concurrent fisheries. The information in this document is relevant for ICES expert groups delivering evidence for advice on fishing opportunities, for advice drafting groups, and for interested policymakers, stakeholders, and the wider scientific community. The amount of information available will determine the type of advice that can be given. However, advice should be consistent with ICES advisory framework; specifically:Advice should be precautionary for all stocks in a fishery which concurrently catches a mix of stocks of the same species. The advice for individual stocks should be set according to the ICES advice rules including if the stock is below B lim . In such situations, advice should be for zero catch where ...

الوصف: This Data Call is limited to European eel and is addressed to all the countries within the geographic range of the European eel (North Atlantic, Baltic and Mediterranean Seas, and inland waters). These countries are distributed across different global and regional management organizations, e.g. those represented in WGEEL (EIFAAC, ICES, GFCM). The data will be used by WGEEL to conduct an assessment of the eel stock and factors affecting the stock in support of the recurrent ICES Advice. ...

الوصف: The ICES Working Group on integrated assessments for the Norwegian Sea (WGINOR) synthesizes and evaluates information on physical, chemical, ecological, human, and environmental processes affecting the Norwegian Sea ecosystem. For this purpose, it gathers information, performs data analyses, and interacts with stakeholders. Based on these, WGINOR develops and produces an annual ecosystem status summary and assembles a knowledge base that supports the Norwegian Sea Ecosystem Overview. In 2023, WGINOR updated the integrated ecosystem assessment of the Norwegian Sea and reports that 1) while the extent of Arctic Water is increasing, the heat content in the Norwegian Sea remains above the long-term average, 2) the annual primary production remains stable, but the seasonal timing of peak production is gradually shifting to a later date, 3) zooplankton spring biomass declined in the mid-2000s and since then there has been no clear trend but variations between years, 4) spawning-stock biomass of herring and ...
