مستخلص: This report describes a patient who presented with acute but transient right arm weakness and altered sensation secondary to severe stenosis of the left common carotid artery (CCA) origin. Endovascular stenting of the stenosed origin was achieved utilising a novel rendezvous technique through combined retrograde common carotid artery and anterograde transfemoral approaches. This technique has numerous potential advantages over traditional transfemoral endovascular and open retrograde common carotid artery approaches. It allows increased procedural control and success in traversing the stenosis and provides a smooth transition for the stent delivery catheter. An open cutdown procedure or open surgical technique is not required. Our patient recovered well from the procedure with no complications within the three-month follow up period.Copyright © 2021, The Author(s).

مستخلص: BACKGROUND: Identifying high-risk asymptomatic individuals remains the cornerstone of cardiovascular disease prevention. Coronary artery calcium is a highly specific marker of atherosclerosis that can be quantified using non-contrast computed tomography. The resulting calcium score has the capacity to improve current methods of risk stratification. OBJECTIVE(S): The aim of this article is to provide an overview of calcium scoring, including its method of acquisition, indications, interpretation and role in prognostication. DISCUSSION: Calcium score has been shown to convincingly predict future cardiovascular risk in the asymptomatic population across a wide range of ethnicities, ages and sexes. Individuals at intermediate Framingham risk benefit the most from calcium scoring, which can be used to inform the need for preventive pharmacotherapy. Calcium scoring can be repeated after five years to reassess cardiovascular risk, especially when there is a decision to defer statin therapy on the basis of absence of coronary calcium.

مستخلص: The uterine junctional zone represents the juncture between endometrium and myometrium. The junctional zone is hormonally dependent and displays continuous peristaltic activity throughout the menstrual cycle in the nonpregnant state which is concerned with sperm transport and embryo implantation. Peristalsis may be observed using various invasive and noninvasive modalities, of which ultrasound is the most readily applied in the clinical setting. Women with pelvic pathology display alterations in uterine peristalsis which may contribute to infertility. Characterization of peristalsis in infertility subgroups, the development of a subjective peristalsis tool, and the application of potential therapeutics to an assisted reproductive treatment setting are the subject of ongoing investigation. Meta-Analysis indicates a potential role for oxytocin antagonist in the improvement of fertility treatments.Copyright © 2021 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). All rights reserved.

مستخلص: Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality in Australian women. We identified gender differences in healthy lifestyle adherence in patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for CAD. Method(s): Consecutive patients were prospectively recruited from three Australian institutions (2016-2017). The primary endpoint at 1 year follow-up was healthy lifestyle adherence defined as 3/3 of: a heart-healthy diet, being physically active and not smoking. Secondary endpoints included cardiac rehabilitation attendance, medication use and lipid levels. Result(s): From 729 participants (n=192, 26.3% women) 56% were adherent to all three lifestyle measures with no gender difference overall. Compared to men, women were less likely to smoke (7.7% versus 12.2%, p<0.001) to be physically active (61.5% versus 78.2%; p<0.0001), attend cardiac rehabilitation (58.2% versus 66.4%; p<0.045), and take statin therapy (85.4% versus 94.7%; p<0.0001). Female gender independently predicted physical inactivity (OR 2.41, 95% CI 1.57-3.68, p<0.001). Conclusion(s): Important gender differences exist in patients treated with PCI for CAD, namely, significant lower physical activity, cardiac rehabilitation attendance and statin use in women. These all represent key targets for gender-specific secondary prevention interventions.Copyright © 2020
