الوصف: Translocations using captive-reared and wild-caught animals are important and widely used conservation tools to boost dwindling endangered populations and for maintaining biodiversity, but still suffer high failure rates. Animal personality, defined as consistent inter-individual differences in behaviour, can have a critical influence on individual fitness and population dynamics. Many conservation translocations could benefit by selecting individuals with certain personality traits, but the importance of personality of the ‘founders’ is often not considered. The link between behavioural assessments and improving translocation success therefore needs further investigation to demonstrate that adopting behavioural assays for translocations is worthwhile and feasible. Too few studies have considered the effect of captive-rearing or novel release-site conditions on changes to pre-release behavioural structural characteristics, including such as between-trait (i.e., behavioural syndromes) or within-trait correlations (i.e., personality-plasticity correlations) among individuals. Considering that appropriate behavioural structures can usually serve as immediate adaptive responses to environmental uncertainty, we suggest that the loss of appropriate structures may give a partial explanation for why captive-reared or wild-caught animals unfamiliar with the release-site environment suffer high post-release mortality rates. We call for more comprehensive personality trait assessments to evaluate the potential negative effects on behavioural structure induced by captive rearing and an unfamiliarity to the release-site environment in future conservation studies. We suggest several specific measures that may help to reform appropriate behavioural structures during captive rearing to form part of future feasibility and pre-release stages of conservation translocations.

الوصف: For the high-order harmonic generation in solids, we find a distinct and clean interference pattern in the high-energy end of the spectrum which can be interpreted as a Michelson interferometer of the Bloch electron. Our results are achieved by a numerical solution to the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation of the quasi-electron in solids and can be explained by an analytical model based on the principle of the Michelson interferometry. The present study deepens our understanding of the HHG mechanism in crystalline materials and may find potential applications in imaging of the dispersion relation or topological structure of the energy bands in solids.

مستخلص: Child externalising problems, such as acting out and hostility, have been found to be significant stressors for parents, leading to increased distress levels. This cross‐sectional study examined the mediating role of parents' use of mobile phones to soothe or engage children in the association between child externalising problems and distress in parents. Altogether 937 parents of children aged 5–12 reported their child's externalising problems, child's mobile phone use, and their distress through an online survey. The findings indicated that parents of children with high externalising problems are more likely to use mobile phones to soothe their children and keep them engaged in daily activities, which, in turn, is associated with higher distress in parents. Child externalising problems and distress in parents remained significantly and positively associated even after accounting for the mediating effect. The results highlight the child‐driven effect on distress in parents through parenting behaviours, indicating the importance of providing alternative parenting strategies to cope with child externalising behaviours, in order to promote parental emotional well‐being. مستخلص: Objectives: This longitudinal study examined the mediating role of mindful parenting in the relations between parental cognitive reappraisal and parenting practices such as physical coercion, psychological control, and parental warmth. Method: A total of 170 mothers (Mage = 35.63; SD = 4.91) and 164 fathers (Mage = 39.95; SD = 6.27) of preschoolers from 175 Hong Kong Chinese families participated in this study. Initially, mothers and fathers completed self-report questionnaires assessing their cognitive reappraisal. Six months later, both parents reported on their mindful parenting and parenting practices. Spousal reports of physical coercion and psychological control were also collected. Structural equation modeling was conducted separately for mothers and fathers to examine the mediation models. Results: Mindful parenting mediated the associations between parental cognitive reappraisal and parenting practices in both mothers and fathers. Specifically, initial parental cognitive reappraisal had a positive effect on mindful parenting 6 months later, which in turn was negatively related to physical coercion and psychological control, and positively related to parental warmth. For mothers only, initial parental cognitive reappraisal had a positive effect on parental warmth 6 months later, after accounting for the mediating role of mindful parenting. Conclusions: The study highlighted how mindful parenting connects parental cognitive reappraisal and parenting practices for both mothers and fathers with children in preschool years. The findings provide valuable information for professionals and intervention programs to incorporate mindful parenting approaches with emotion regulation strategies to promote appropriate parenting practices. Preregistration: This study is not preregistered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

الوصف: Based on the time-dependent density functional theory, we theoretically investigate the influence of mechanical strains on the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in the monolayer hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) crystal. We show that mechanical strains can largely modify the band structure and facilitate the harmonic emission. Compared to uniaxial strains, we find that biaxial strains may enhance the HHG yield significantly, and the HHG spectroscopy generated by a linearly polarized laser is closely related to the symmetry of the deformed hBN. Moreover, when driven by a circularly polarized laser, we find that the appearance of the 3 n -order harmonics manifests the restoration of the three-fold rotational symmetry. Our results will be useful in controlling the HHG spectroscopy and probing lattice deformations in crystals.
