مستخلص: A study of geno-pheno associations in PGL identified possible factors that affect tumor risk. PURPOSE: Pheochromocytomas (PCCs) and paragangliomas (PGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors. It is estimated 40% of PCCs/PGLs can be described by hereditary causes, most often in the SDHx genes (SDHx : SDHA /B/C/D), resulting in heterogeneous clinical tumor findings. Previous research suggests a possible genotype-phenotype association. This study aimed to explore associations between pathogenic variant (PV) type and tumor presence. METHODS: A prospectively maintained database at an academic medical center was used to identify individuals with SDHx PVs. The research team abstracted demographics, clinical, genomic, and variant information from the electronic medical record for analysis. Additional variant data were collected through the University of California Santa Cruz Genome Browser and MutationTaster2021 outputs. Descriptive and comparative analyses were run using R*Stats (R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria). RESULTS: In this study, 304 individuals with SDHx PVs had 111 tumors, across 89 kindreds. The cohort reflected well-established penetrance estimates and gene-specific tumor type risk. In addition, this analysis points toward additional factors that could be incorporated into risk assessment, including age, variant type, and variant location within gene. CONCLUSION: Exploration of these associations further supports the need for gene-specific screening recommendations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) is involved in the catalytic pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), which is closely related to energy metabolism. G6PD plays a crucial role in many types of cancer, but the specific molecular mechanisms of G6PD in cancer remain unclear. Therefore, we investigated the potential oncogenic role of G6PD in various tumors based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), the cBioPortal datasets, the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Xena browser, and the UALCAN-based online tool. G6PD was highly expressed in several cancer tissues (hepatocellular carcinoma, glioma, and breast cancer) compared with normal tissues and was significantly associated with poor prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, clear cell renal cell carcinoma, and breast cancer. Promoter methylation levels of G6PD were lower in Bladder Urothelial Carcinoma (BLCA) (P = 2.77e−02), breast invasive carcinoma (BRCA) (P = 1.62e−12), kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) (P = 4.23e−02), kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP) (P = 2.64e−03), liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) (P = 1.76e−02), stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) (P = 3.50e−02), testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) (P = 1.62e−12), higher in prostate adenocarcinoma (PRAD) (P = 1.81e−09), and uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC) (P = 2.96e−04) compared with corresponding normal tissue samples. G6PD expression was positively correlated with the infiltration level of immune cells in most tumors, suggesting that G6PD may be involved in tumor immune infiltration. In addition, the functional mechanism of G6PD also involves 'Carbon metabolism', 'Glycolysis/Gluconeogenesis', 'Pentose phosphate pathway', and 'Central carbon pathway metabolism in cancer signaling pathway'. This pan-cancer study provides a relatively broad understanding of the oncogenic role of G6PD in various tumors and presents a theoretical basis for the development of G6PD inhibitors as therapeutic drugs for multiple cancers. الوصف: The subject of this research is the analysis of the impact that separatism in the department of Santa Cruz in Bolivia has on the destabilisation of this country, primarily through the study of two cases: the months-long rebellion of the rich and lowland eastern departments led by Santa Cruz against the central government in 2008 and the role played by separatist political forces from Santa Cruz in carrying out the coup d’état against Evo Morales in 2019. The research aims to validate the first hypothesis, which holds that Santa Cruz separatism is a historical category and that it causes social, political, and economic tensions between the western and eastern regions of Bolivia, which are geographically and culturally distinct from one another. The results of the research showed that separatism in the department of Santa Cruz is one of the key factors in the destabilisation of Bolivia because there are farright-oriented political parties and movements, as well as politicians and influential rich people who are strongly against the left-wing regime and who want to create an independent state on the soil of this department. The research’s conclusion highlights the historicalrivalry between Bolivia’s eastern and western parts while also emphasising the necessity of demystifying the superiority of the Santa Cruz identity over native identities and fostering dialogue to end it. We employed historical, case study, and comparative analytic methods during the research.

مستخلص: Cabrillo College, a 2-year community college in Aptos, California, has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to find a private partner to develop the first student housing facility on its campus. The RFQ deadline is June 14th, with a shortlist expected later in the month. The University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) is also involved in the project, with less than half of the beds designated for its students. The state will cover a significant portion of the debt service costs for the project, and Cabrillo has received a grant of $111.7 million. The private partner selected will be responsible for designing, building, financing, operating, and maintaining the student housing facility, which must have at least 624 beds and be completed by July 2027. The project also aims to include non-residential spaces for students, such as a childcare facility. Cabrillo received advice on the project from JLL. [Extracted from the article]
