مستخلص: The present study investigated the correlation between achievement and motivation in high school advanced placement students. This study looked into the gap of how much motivation an AP student needs to reach achievement because of increased student involvement in an AP classroom. This study analyzes this correlation with a qualitative interview and field note observations. To search for this, the researcher conducted field note observations with 7 participants in a low, medium, and high stress leveled environment to cross examine student behavior with their interview answers. The findings of this study were that students need a high level of motivation to feel academically achieved, and this is predominantly through grades. This study ultimately examined the significance of how important it is to assess student involvement in a learning environment, to overall help further AP students to learn and succeed in their classroom. This study ultimately created a future pathway to examine other academic levels such as Honors, or College Prep (CP) students.

مستخلص: Artistic style transfer involves the adaption of an input image to reflect the style of a reference image while maintaining its original content. This technique, now a prominent focus due to its prospective use in creative fields like digital art and graphic design, typically applies normalization techniques and attention mechanisms. While these methods yield decent results, they often fall short due to distortion of content image details and non‐artefact styles. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach that synergizes adaptive instance normalization (AdaIN), attention mechanisms, knowledge distillation (KD) and strategically placed internal layers, and new enhancements designed to preserve content details and provide a nuanced control over the style transfer process. We introduce a Detail Enhancement Module to amplify high‐frequency details in the content image, enhancing edge and texture preservation. A Multi‐scale Strategy is implemented to ensure uniform style application across various detail levels, leading to more coherent stylization. The Content Feature Refinement process refines content features, sharpening and emphasizing details to preserve structural and textural integrity. AdaIN's distinctive feature of efficiently collecting style data is exploited in our approach, coupled with attention mechanisms' inherent ability to conserve content information. We supplement this blend with KD for the enhancement of model accuracy and efficiency. Additionally, the introduction of internal layers acts as a conduit to further improve the style transfer process, increasing the transfer level of features and fostering better stylized results. The cornerstone of our technique lies in preserving the content structure amidst complex style transfers. Experimental results affirm the superior performance of our method over existing techniques in both quantitative and qualitative evaluations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of IFRS convergence on annual report readability in an emerging market context, with an emphasis on the contents of management discussion and analysis (MD&A), notes to the accounts (Notes) and the whole annual report. Design/methodology/approach: The study performs firm-fixed effect regression on a sample of 143 Indian listed companies over a period spanning from 2012 to 2021 to examine the influence of IFRS convergence on readability. This assessment primarily focuses on broader spectrums of readability dimensions, namely annual report length and complexity, wherein complexity is measured using the Gunning Fog, Flesch Reading ease and Flesch-Kincaid grade index. Findings: As Indian firms shift to IFRS reporting, the findings suggest that annual reports have become significantly lengthier and more complex, causing deterioration in readability. The Notes section, in particular, exhibits the most significant increase in length and complexity, followed by the entire annual report and MD&A section. Furthermore, the findings also indicate that the complexity of the Notes section is instrumental in the observed complexity growth of the whole annual report in the post-IFRS period. Research limitations/implications: The current study employs readability indices rather than directly taking into consideration the opinions of actual users of annual reports to determine readability. As a result, the study does not provide direct evidence on how information in annual reports affects users' readability. Practical implications: The findings provide insightful information to managers and policymakers about the difficulties stakeholders may encounter while reading IFRS-based annual reports, which ultimately impact their investment decisions. Thus, there is an important managerial implication from this, depending upon the severity of complexity corporations participate in while complying with IFRS in the post-IFRS period. Originality/value: Analyzing the influence of exogenous information shock, such as IFRS convergence, on readability is critical, particularly for emerging markets like India, where a lack of financial literacy and weaker enforcement already have detrimental effects on the capital market. In light of this, the current study provides a comprehensive examination of the impact of IFRS convergence on annual report readability and contributes to the growing IFRS literature in the less explored emerging market context. مستخلص: Shape‐conveying line drawings generated from 3D models normally create closed regions in image space. These lines and regions can be stylized to mimic various artistic styles, but for complex objects, the extracted topology is unnecessarily dense, leading to unappealing and unnatural results under stylization. Prior works typically simplify line drawings without considering the regions between them, and lines and regions are stylized separately, then composited together, resulting in unintended inconsistencies. We present a method for joint simplification of lines and regions simultaneously that penalizes large changes to region structure, while keeping regions closed. This feature enables region stylization that remains consistent with the outline curves and underlying 3D geometry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: Complexity has been known as a crucial psychological factor influencing the evaluation of the building facades preferences. However, little is known about the role of physical attributes of preferred building facades on perceived visual complexity. The objective of this study is to assess perceived visual complexity of urban building facades in terms of physical attribute in different levels. Discrete choice experiments were used to study the perceived visual complexity of preferred building facades. A sample of 213 students from Golestan University evaluated preference and perceived visual complexity of 36 pairs of images based on ten physical attributes of building facades in different levels (material (brick, stone), the contrast of materials (absent, present), color (absent, present), ornament (high, low), curve (straight, curved), vegetation (plants, no plants), windows orientations (vertical, horizontal), fenestration (large, small), articulation (side recesses, flat) and architectural style (modern, classic, traditional). The results revealed that all physical attributes of preferred building facades were found significant on perceived visual complexity expect for three attributes: architectural style, color and window to wall size. Thus, participant preferred a high-ornament facade with curved lines, vegetation, classical style, articulation, contrast between materials, as well as vertical windows. The articulation and ornament attributes were the most significant on perceived visual complexity. The results of this study can help city planners, architects, and designers to design facades with more general preferences and reduce the visual pollution of the cities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: This research aimed to investigate the impact of learning strategies with learning styles on learning performance in disaster mitigation. Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Direct Instruction (DI) are the strategies used. The learning styles used as moderator variables are kinaesthetic, visual and auditory. The research subjects included two junior high schools, SMPN 1 Sidoarjo and SMPN 1 Maospati, with a total of 122 students. The two-way ANOVA analysis technique was used to process the data obtained statistically. This research indicates that PBL strategy with visual learning style is superior to DI strategy with other learning styles in terms of learning achievement in disaster mitigation. This research has shown that considering the specific learning strategy and learning style of students contributes to positive learning outcomes in disaster mitigation.

معرفات التقييم و الدراسة: Learning Style Inventory

مستخلص: The characteristic differences of participants affect their reactions to various gamification elements. Thus, it is critical to reveal the impact different type of students on gamified interventions, and the relation of personality features and gamified learning process. In this study, it is compered the motivation and perception of participants with different learning styles towards gamified learning process, and determined the correlation between motivation and perception. It is also figured out the enabler and barrier factors of students' motivation and perception by learning styles in the 7-week gamified learning process. Participants consist of 95 prospective teachers with different learning styles. This study is based on the triangulation as a mixed reserch method. As data collection tools, the instructional materials motivation survey, course evaluation questionnaire, learning styles inventory of Felder and Soloman, and interview form are used. It is conducted the non-parametric tests, Mann-Whitney U and Spearman's rank correlation for quantitative data analysis, and the content analysis for in-detail qualitative data analysis. Results point out that there is not any significant differences between categories of each learning style dimension in terms of motivation and perception. Students have the high level motivation and perception by each category of four learning style dimensions. There are positive and medium correlations between motivation and perception of students by learning styles. It is also determined the various enabler and barrier factors of students' motivation and perception in gamified learning process. Frequencies and percentages of enablers are the higher than barriers considering students' learning styles. These results prove that the gamified activities-tasks considering the learning styles have a power to motivate students with different characteristics to the learning process and provide the positive perception towards the gamified process. It is also discussed the quantitative and qualitative directions for the further researches.

مستخلص: Using debt crowdfunding data, we investigate whether borrowers' writing style is associated with an online lender and borrower behaviors, whether the information contained in linguistic style can mitigate information asymmetry in peer-to-peer markets, and whether online investors correctly interpret the economic value of written texts. Peer-to-peer lenders bid more aggressively, are more likely to fund, and charge lower rates to online borrowers whose writing is more readable, more positive, and contains fewer deception cues. Moreover, such borrowers are less likely to default. Online investors, however, fail to fully account for the information contained in borrowers' writing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[eng] This thesis studies Miguel de Unamuno's first book of poems, Poesías (1907), from a two-fold perspective: taking into account the “Contemplative Unamuno”, a facet of the author analyzed by C. Blanco Aguinaga, and examining his works prior to and contemporary with the work’s genesis, which leads us to delineate the theoretical precepts of his poetry. Special attention is paid to what was drawn from the writer's Diario íntimo, along with his letters, articles, essays and novels, texts that clearly reflect Unamuno's sentiments and why he felt the need to write poetry. They also help us to understand the thematic nuclei of his first work, already evident in his poems written in 1899. Thus, in the first part, his poetics are reconstructed based upon an examination of his letters, his diary, articles, essays and novels, before offering a study of the themes and rhetoric foud in Poesías (1907). This study reveals an Unamuno who was, above all, and early, a poet, as Poesías shows an Unamuno belying his legend as a tortured soul, a constructor of philosophical systems, such that his poetry cannot be labeled one of “ideas”, philosophical and anti-aesthetic, its central themes being patriotism, family and religion. Nothing could be further from reality, as this set of poems evinces a spiritual man whose greatest concerns were the recovery of the soul through a return to childhood, the world of dreams and imagination, loving dedication, and serene contemplation; all this through a poetic language that is an expression of the soul, in a desire for the eternalization of the transient and universalization of the particular, through his own original symbols, metaphors and musicality. Poetry, thus, becomes a process of spiritualization, with a poetic language of the ineffable that allows Unamuno to forgo discursive thinking, embracing, rather, a form of intuitive knowledge that transcends the material and rational consciousness. In light of its themes, its formal renewal of his poetry, the positive responses that it received from important contemporary poets, such as J.R. Jiménez, R. Darío, and A. Machado, among others, whom it influenced (though not from critics), its indebtedness to the purest Romanticism, and its affinity with the Symbolist and Modernist poetics of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, we demonstrate that this poetry is not an “anomaly” in the fin-de-siecle milieu, but rather an integral part of it, influencing a change of course, which it began, towards the modernity of the twentieth century.

مستخلص: This research delves into the washback effects of the Hong Kong Diploma of Education Examination (HKDSE) on the learning strategies employed by secondary school students in Hong Kong. By surveying 50 students to assess their English learning strategy profiles, this study seeks to identify potential biases in strategy selection indicative of examination influence. A subset of participants was further interviewed, enabling a deeper exploration of the underlying reasons behind their strategy choices. Thematic analysis of these interviews revealed that while students recognize the intended washback of the examination on their learning strategies, its actual influence might be diminished by their reservations regarding high stakes testing's effect on authentic English learning. The overarching sentiment expressed frustrations and conflict between the study of English language, and exam-centric pressures.
