    الوصف: Berries are a source of biologically active substances in human diet. Gooseberries have attractive sensory properties and high nutritional value. However, modern science knows little about micromycetic contamination of gooseberry. The research objective was to define the mycobiota composition of Ribes uva-crispa L. varieties during storage. The study featured the mycobiota of gooseberry varieties Senator and Rozoviy 2. The berries were harvested on the test field of the Siberian Federal Scientific Center of Agro-BioTechnologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. They were stored for 18 days at 18 ± 2 and 4 ± 2°C and a relative humidity of 90–95%. The authors used standard research methods to identify the mycobiota and attribute them to nine genera by morphological structure: Aspergillus, Mucor, Penicillium, Rhizopus, Alternaria, Aureobasidium, Cladosporium, Cryptococcus, and anaerobic yeast. The frequency of occurrence varied from 20 to 100%. Micromycetes of the genus Fusarium were present only in the Senator sample, which also demonstrated a 100% occurrence of Penicillium, Alternaria, Aspergillus, and Cladosporium. In the sample of Rozoviy 2, Penicillium and Cladosporium occurred in 80%. The Senator sample was twice as low in micromycetes as the Rozoviy 2 berries: 558 vs. 945, respectively. The Senator berries grew in micromycetes due to the Cladosporium fungi while Rozoviy 2 owed its micromycetic increase to Penicillium. Both varieties showed no signs of ascomycetes known as a powdery mildew agent. During storage, the growth of yeast and yeast-like fungi depended on the variety of berries while the growth of mycelial fungi depended on the variety and storage temperature. The data obtained expand the scope of scientific knowledge about the generic composition of gooseberry mycobiota, which may help to select correct anti-spoilage measures.

    الوصف: The purpose of the research is to study the yield and the main components of the productivity of 9 red currant cultivars of early and medium maturation from the bioresource collection of the Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Breeding and to assess the degree of stability of the traits. The study was carried out in 2020, 2022, 2023 in the Orel region. The collection plot was laid in autumn 2015 according to the scheme 3.5 x 0.5 m. In the studied cultivars, the raceme length varied significantly over the years from 20.0 % (‘Vika’) to 35.6 % (‘Krasnaya Kuzmina’), depending on the meteorological conditions of the growing season. On average, over the years of study, the raceme length of the control ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ cultivar was 8.6 cm, and only the ‘Krasnaya Kuzmina’ cultivar had significant differences from the control in raceme length – 10.9 cm. The ‘Niva’ cultivar showed large fruit, the average berry weight for three years was 0.76 g and significantly exceeded the control cultivar (0.54 g). The rest cultivars were included in the group with an average berry weight. The values of the berry weight varied greatly over the years. The variation coefficient (CV) ranged from 8.4 % (‘Jonkheer van Tets’) to 31.7 % (‘Niva’). The cultivars ‘Natalie’ and ‘Vika’ were characterized by the uniformity of the berries in the raceme. On average, over 3 years, the cultivars showed high yields from 14.3 t/ha in ‘Red Cross’ (CV 48.7 %) to 25.6 t/ha in ‘Gazel’ (CV 10.7 %). ‘Gazel’, ‘Asya’ and ‘Podarok Pobeditelyam’ were distinguished by high stable yields and parameters of productivity components. ‘Niva’ was characterized by large size of fruit and high yield, but it had less stability over the years. ‘Red Cross’ did not realize its genetic productivity potential in the conditions of the Orel region.

    الوصف: The currant bud moth Euhyponomeutoides albithoracellus is a destructive pest in black currant orchards in Northern Sweden and Finland. The larvae feed on the buds, and at high densities, the species can cause severe yield losses. Sex pheromone components of the bud moth were identified via solvent extraction of excised female pheromone glands, analyses by gas chromatography with electroantennographic detection and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry and field trapping experiments. Antennae of males responded strongly and consistently to two compounds in extracts, identified as (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate. Weaker and less consistent responses were observed to the corresponding alcohols, (E)-11-tetradecenol and (Z)-11-tetradecenol, and tetradecyl acetate. Field tests showed strong attraction of bud moth males to a 1:1 blend of (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate. Adding the alcohols to the binary acetate blend reduced trap catches drastically, whereas tetradecyl acetate had no statistically significant impact on male attraction when added to that binary blend. Finally, testing different compositions of the binary acetate blend revealed highest catch in traps baited with a 25:75 or 50:50 ratio of the E:Z acetate isomers. The identification of sex pheromone components of the bud moth contributes to developing sustainable control of this pest via monitoring and mating disruption with sex pheromone.

    الوصف: Ventilatör ilişkili pnömoni (VİP), yoğun bakım ünitesindeki (YBÜ) en önemli enfeksiyonlardan biridir ve hastalarda mortalite ve morbidite artışına katkıda bulunur. Bu çalışmada Rheum ribes (Elazığ/Türkiye) ekstraktının VİP hastalarından elde edilen bakteri izolatları üzerinde antimikrobiyal etkilerini (agar kuyu difüzyonu, MİK testi) ve antioksidan kapasitesini (DPPH, FRAP ve metal şelatlama) değerlendirmeyi amaçladık. Analiz sonucunda R.ribes'in en yüksek antimikrobiyal etkisi 19.32 mm zon çapı ile Klebsiella pneumonia-2 (K.pneumonia) ve 18.45 mm zon çapı ile K.pneumonia-21 izolatında gözlendi. Bunların dışında Staph. aureus., K. pneumonia-20, K. pneumonia-16 ve Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) sırasıyla 18.32, 15.14, 14.56 ve 13.54 mm zon çapları ile tespit edildi. R. ribes ekstraktı K.pneumonia izolatları 16 ve 20'de 0,5 ppm'de %98,3 ve %94,88 inhibitör etki gösterirken, en yüksek izolatlar 21 ve 2'de %100 inhibitör etki göstermiştir. S. aureus %50,36 gibi yüksek bir inhibisyon etkisi göstermiştir. 0,25 ppm'de ve P. aeruginosa 0,5 ppm'de %82,82 oranında izole edilmiştir. Ayrıca DPPH, FRAP ve metal şelasyon analizleri güçlü bir antioksidan etki göstermiştir. Ribes ekstraktının antioksidan etkileri için demir iyonlarının (Fe2+) DPPH inhibisyon etkisi, FRAP analizi ve şelatlama aktivitesi değerleri sırasıyla %17.22, %1.18 ve %2.14 olarak belirlendi. Sonuç olarak, R. ribes ekstraktının patojenik bakteriler üzerindeki güçlü etkisi ve antioksidan kapasitesi belirlenmiş olup, in vivo ve klinik çalışmalarla faydalı özellikleri derinleştirilebilir.

An important task is to search for and select highly self-fertile cultivars for plant breeding programs and for setting single-cultivar plantings in commercial horticulture.Materials and methods. Cultivars were assessed for their self-fertility levels at Pushkin and Pavlovsk Laboratories of VIR in 2019–2022. Thirty black currant cultivars of eight genetic groups served as the research material. Their levels of self-fertility were tested using conventional techniques. Free pollination served as the control. The resulting data were analyzed according to the main indicators crucial for precise characterization of a cultivar’s self-fertility level: fruit setting rate, berry weight, seed yield, and fertilization effectiveness. The data were statistically processed using Microsoft Excel and the guidelines by B. A. Dospekhov. Fruit setting rate, berry weight, seed yield and fertilization effectiveness were considered for each pollination variant.Results and conclusion. Cultivars with high and stable self-fertility levels were identified as potential valuable sources for breeding programs: ‘Partizanka Bryanskaya’ (k-45548), ‘Ben Gairn’(k-45524), ‘Litvinovskaya’ (k-45542), ‘Mushketer’ (k-45544), ‘Raduzhnaya’ (k-45549), ‘Ben Lomond’ (k-32611), and ‘Vertikal’ (k-45528). Cvs. ‘Partizanka Bryanskaya’ (k-45548), ‘Ben Gairn’ (k-45524), ‘Mushketer’ (k-45544), and ‘Vertikal’ (k-45528) may be used in single-cultivar plantings because they are able to set the same number of berries under natural self-pollination and free pollination. Natural self-pollination (autogamy) led to a decrease in the size of berries and the number of seeds in them. An increase in the main self-fertility indicators was observed under artificial self-pollination and free pollination.

    الوصف: Embelin, a natural para-benzoquinone product, is derived from plants of the Embelia genus, particularly Embelia ribes Burm.f. A staple in traditional medicinal formulations for centuries, Embelin's pharmacological actions are attributed to the hydroxyl benzoquinone present in its structure. Its therapeutic potential is bolstered by unique physical and chemical properties. Recently, Embelin, recognized as a non-peptidic, cell-permeable small inhibitor of the X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP), has garnered significant attention for its anticancer activity. It demonstrates various anticancer mechanisms, such as apoptosis induction, cell cycle arrest, and autophagy, in different cancer types. Additionally, Embelin modulates several signal transduction pathways, including NF-κB, PI3Kinase/AKT, and STAT3, effectively inhibiting the proliferation of diverse cancer cell lines. This literature review illuminates the anticancer potential of Embelin, detailing its mechanisms of action and prospective clinical applications, based on relevant scientific literature from the past decade sourced from various electronic databases.

    الوصف: Eight Ribes magellanicum collections from three different places in southern Patagonia were compared for content of different groups of phenolics, antioxidant capacity and inhibition of enzymes related to metabolic syndrome (α-amylase, α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase). The sample with the highest antioxidant capacity was assessed for glutathione (GSH) synthesis stimulation in human gastric adenocarcinoma (AGS) cells. The chemical profile was determined by high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry detection (HPLC-MS/MS) and the main phenolics were quantified. The samples from Navarino Island and Reserva Nacional Magallanes showed higher content of anthocyanins and caffeoylquinic acid, with better activity towards α-glucosidase and antioxidant capacity. A sample from Omora (Navarino Island), significantly increased intracellular GSH content in AGS cells. Some 70 compounds were identified in the fruit extracts by HPLC-MS/MS. The glucoside and rutinoside from delphinidin and cyanidin and 3-caffeoylquinic acid were the main compounds. Different chemical profiles were found according to the collection places.

El resultat de l’estudi aconsegueix perfilar la vida familiar dels escultors, el seu lloc de residència, el seu patrimoni, alguns dels seus col·laboradors, el seu taller, les zones on treballaren i l’obra que realitzaren.
    In this article, we investigate the life and work of Bartomeu and Antoni Ribes, two Majorcan sculptors of the 17th and 18th centuries. Biographical information is provided on the sculptors using extant data and new sources to shed light on the artists’ family life, studio, places where they worked, and their oeuvre.

    الوصف: Bioassay targeted phyto-investigation of dried green walnut husk of Ribes glaciale Wall. yielded one new compound as β-D-glucopyrano (4′→3)-β-D-glucopyranose ( 1 ) and four known compounds namely scoparone ( 2 ), apigenin ( 3 ), β-sitosterol ( 4 ) and β-sitosterol-D-glucoside ( 5 ). The structure of new compound was elucidated with the help of 1D, 2D and HRESIMS analysis. The antioxidant activity of extract, fractions and pure were evaluated using 2, 2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging and ferric ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays that found in the following order: butanol fr. (BF) > chloroform fr. (CF) > ethylacetate fr. (EF) > Petroleum ether fr. (PF). To search for potent antioxidant agents in extract, the isolated compounds 1 , 2, 3, 4 and 5 were docked on the enzyme human NADPH oxidase, lipoxygenase, cytochrome P450 and myeloperoxidase. The compound 1 was found a potent inhibitor of target enzyme revealing its high free radical scavenging potential.
