الوصف: Artificial photosynthetic cells producing organic matter from CO 2 and water have been extensively studied for carbon neutrality, and the research trend is currently transitioning from proof of concept using small-sized cells to large-scale demonstrations for practical applications. We previously demonstrated a 1 m 2 size cell in which an electrochemical (EC) reactor featuring a ruthenium (Ru)-complex polymer (RuCP) cathode catalyst was integrated with photovoltaic cells. In this study, we tackled the remaining issue to improve the long-term durability of cathode electrodes used in the EC reactors, demonstrating high Faradaic efficiencies exceeding 80% and around 60% electricity-to-chemical energy-conversion efficiencies of a 75 cm 2 sized EC reactor after continuous operation for 3000 h under practical conditions. Introduction of a pyrrole derivative containing an amino group in the RuCP coupled with UV–ozone treatment to create carboxyl groups on the carbon supports effectively reduced the detachment of the RuCP catalyst by forming a strong amide linkage. A newly developed chemically resistant graphite adhesive prevented the carbon supports from peeling off of the conductive substrates. In addition, highly durable anodes composed of IrO x -TaO y /Pt-metal oxide/Ti were adopted. Even though the EC reactor was installed at an inclined angle of 30°, which is approximately the optimal angle for receiving more solar energy, the crossover reactions were sufficiently suppressed because the porous separator film impeded the transfer of oxygen gas bubbles from the anode to the cathode. The intermittent operation improved the energy-conversion efficiency because the accumulated bubbles were removed at night.

الوصف: The molecular chromophores within brown carbon (BrC) aerosols absorb solar radiation at visible and near-ultraviolet wavelengths. This contributes to the overall warming of the troposphere and the photochemical aging of aerosols. In this investigation, we combine a suite of experimental and theoretical methods to reveal the conformation-specific ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy of 2-phenylpyrrole (2PhPy)an extended π-conjugated pyrrole derivative and a model BrC chromophorealong with its water microsolvated molecular complexes (2PhPy: n H 2 O, n = 1–3). Using resonant two-photon ionization and double-resonance holeburning techniques alongside MP3 (ground state) and ADC(3) (excited state) torsional potential energy surfaces and discrete variable representation simulations, we characterized the ultraviolet spectra of 2PhPy and 2PhPy:1H 2 O. This analysis revealed evidence for Herzberg–Teller vibronic coupling along the CH wagging and NH stretching coordinates of the aromatic rings. Conformation-specific infrared spectroscopy revealed extended hydrogen-bonding networks of the 2PhPy: n H 2 O complexes. Upon stepwise addition of H 2 O solvation, the nearest H 2 O acceptor forms a strong, noncovalent interaction with the pyrrole NH donor, while the second and third H 2 O partners interface with the phenyl and pyrrole aromatic rings through growing van der Waals π/H atom stabilization. A local-mode Hamiltonian approach was employed for comparison with the experimental spectra, thus identifying the vibrational spectral signatures to specific 2PhPy: n H 2 O oscillators.

الوصف: Background. Previously, we have detected the antitumor and anti-inflammatory activities of pyrrole-derived protein kinase inhibitors - MI-1 (1-(4-Cl-benzyl)-3-Cl-4-(CF3-phenylamino) -1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione 1) and D1 (5-amino-4-(1,3-benzothiazole-2-yl)-1-(3-methoxyphenyl)-1,2-dihydro-3H-pyrrole-3-one) using rat colon cancer model. Therefore, pyrrole derivatives was aimed at detecting the anti-inflammatory effect on the model of ulcerative colitis caused by acetic acid in rats. Materials and Methods. Prednisolone was used as a reference anti-inflammatory drug of glucocorticoid nature. It was administered intraperitoneally at a dose of 0.7 mg/kg. The compounds were administered in 2 h after the first administration of acetic acid. Total protein was estimated quantitatively, as described by Lowry et al., 1951. Content of the malonic dialdehyde, protein carbonyl groups, and the activity of antioxidant enzymes as indicators of colon mucosa redox status were measured spectrophotometrically. Statistical analysis of the results was performed using MS Excel-2013. Results and Discussion. In case of chronic colitis, the number of carbonyl groups and lipid peroxidation products in the colonic mucosa are increased, indicating the development of oxidative stress. The injection of pyrrole derivatives separately contributes to the approaching these indicators to normal. Adding prednisolone does not have this effect. Colitis has been shown to have a decrease in superoxide dismutase activity, which is a typical phenomenon for chronic inflammation and may indicate depletion of the enzyme. In case of colitis, alanine aminotransferase activity and the content of direct bilirubin are increased, which indicates a liver injury and are systemic manifestations of inflammation of the colon. Pyrrole derivatives help to reduce the liver injury, which indicates the restoration of normal alanine aminotransferase activity and direct bilirubin content. Conclusion. It has been found that at chronic colitis pyrrole derivatives reduce the manifestations of inflammation, contribute to the normal structure of the mucous membrane (comparative to prednisolone as a standard anti-inflammatory drug). It suggests their anti-inflammatory effectiveness, while an increase in total bilirubin under exposition to pyrrole derivatives may be a sign of the adverse effects on the rat’s liver.

الوصف: Objectives: Aspergillus fumigatus causes several diseases in humans and azole resistance in A. fumigatus strains is an important issue. The aim of this multicentre epidemiological study was to investigate the prevalence of azole resistance in clinical and environmental A. fumigatus isolates in Turkey. Methods: Twenty-one centres participated in this study from 1 May 2018 to 1 October 2019. One participant from each centre was asked to collect environmental and clinical A. fumigatus isolates. Azole resistance was screened for using EUCAST agar screening methodology (EUCAST E.DEF 10.1) and was confirmed by the EUCAST E.DEF 9.3 reference microdilution method. Isolates with a phenotypic resistance pattern were sequenced for the cyp51A gene and microsatellite genotyping was used to determine the genetic relationships between the resistant strains. Results: In total, resistance was found in 1.3% of the strains that were isolated from environmental samples and 3.3% of the strains that were isolated from clinical samples. Mutations in the cyp51A gene were detected in 9 (47.4%) of the 19 azole-resistant isolates, all of which were found to be TR34/L98H mutations. Microsatellite genotyping clearly differentiated the strains with the TR34/L98H mutation in the cyp51A gene from the strains with no mutation in this gene. Conclusions: The rate of observed azole resistance of A. fumigatus isolates was low in this study, but the fact that more than half of the examined strains had the wild-Type cyp51A gene supports the idea that other mechanisms of resistance are gradually increasing. © 2022 The Author(s) 2022.

الوصف: Creatinine level in urine is a key factor to monitor kidney performance. The use of an alternative microfluidic platform based on cellulose substrates is an interesting option to integrate sample treatment, creatinine re- cognition by ionophore extraction chemistry and quantification by color measurement through consumer electronics imaging devices. The inclusion of ionophore extraction chemistry based on aryl-substituted calix[4] pyrrole synthetic receptor on 8.7 mm long cotton thread permit the sample treatment, optical recognition of creatinine and their quantification by smartphone running app in unfiltered urine samples diluted 1:100 ratio. The device shows a short response time, 30 s, to creatinine over a wide dynamic range (from 1.6× 10 6 to 5 10–2 M) with precision between 2.9–4.3%. The low interference level of representative species in urine is studied and justified by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. ; “Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad” under Project CTQ2016-78754-C2-1-R
