الوصف: In this study, the changes caused by caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) in the histopathological and biochemical parameters in the oxidant / antioxidant balance in mice with experimental cadmium toxicity were investigated. A total of 40 female Swiss albino mice were used, with 10 mice in each group. The mice were divided into four groups (Group I - Control group, Group II - CAPE group, Group III - Cadmium group, Group IV - Cadmium + CAPE group). Plasma paraoxonase (PON) activity, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), total sialic acid (TSA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total oxidant capacity (TOC), and oxidative stress index (OSI) were analyzed on mice’s blood samples. The results showed that cadmium intoxication triggered oxidative stress in the mice. It also lowered their PON activity alongside TAC and HDL levels (P<0.001, P<0.01, and P<0.01, respectively) and increased their TSA, LDL, TOC, and OSI levels (P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.01, and P<0.01, respectively). The histopathological examination of the liver tissues revealed focal apoptotic regions, sinusoidal occlusion, and irregularity in the cadmium group and no significant change in the other groups. These results indicated that CAPE can significantly prevent biochemical and histopathological changes due to cadmium damage.

الوصف: Pesticides, which adversely affect the critical metabolic processes of organisms, disrupt the physiological balance by specifically targeting enzymes and may lead to such consequences that may lead to death. It provides benefits in agricultural activities. The p53 protein antagonizes bcl-2, an anti-apoptotic protein character, and induces apoptosis by causing mitochondrial membrane permeability. This study aims to show the effect of acetamiprid, which is an insecticide from the neonicotinoid class, on bcl-2 and p53 immunoreactivity, which has an important place in the apoptotic mechanism in kidney tissue. A total of four groups including control and three experimental groups (the acetamiprid was administered 5, 10, and 15 mg kg-1) were formed in the study. After acetamiprid was administered via gavage for 14 days, the kidney tissues taken from the mice, which were sacrificed by cervical dislocation, were fixed in 10% formaldehyde solution for histological and immunohistochemical analyses, and as a result of routine tissue follow-up, the sections were blocked in paraffin and stained with haematoxylin-eosin and immunostaining. The histopathological examinations revealed that while the kidney tissue had a normal structure in the control group, degeneration in the distal and proximal tubules, glomerular degeneration, increase in the capsular area, glomerular atrophy, and haemorrhage were determined in the acetamiprid groups at increasing severity and frequency depending on the dose of the applied substance. In the kidney tissue, Bcl-2 and p53 immunoreactivity was observed in glomerular cells, sinusoidal epithelium, and proximal and distal tubule cells. The acetamiprid caused pathological changes in the kidneys in the dose range used. This effect also affects the expression of bcl-2 and p53 genes, which are biomarkers in the apoptotic mechanism. As acetamiprid accumulates in tissues, it increases the expression of p53 from cell death receptors, while suppressing the anti-apoptotic bcl-2 expression.

مصطلحات موضوعية: Insecticides - Impact and Benefits of Its Use for Humanity
الوصف: The number of studies on insecticides, which constitute an important class of pesticides, is increasing day by day. These chemicals used in the fight against pests in the field of agriculture; It is also used to fight mosquitoes and insects in homes, gardens and rural areas. Excessive use of insecticides has adversely affected many beneficial organisms besides target organisms. As a result of the negative effects of insecticides on non-target organisms, the normal balance of nature has been disturbed and this has led to the decline of some living species in the world. In many studies from the past to the present, it has been shown that these insecticides have negative effects on the environment, human and animal health. Some of these chemicals, which have many benefits in the fight against agricultural pests, have been banned due to their harmful effects on non-target organisms as a result of excessive use. Today, however, these chemicals are still used intensively against agricultural pests, threatening non-target organisms and human health. For this reason, in this book chapter we have prepared, the negative effects of insecticides on living things are examined by reviewing biochemical and histopathological studies.

الوصف: AIM: To evaluate paraoxonase (PON), total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), high-density lipoproteins (HDL), CRP, AST, ALT, GGT, ALP levels in patients with head and multiple organ traumas.MATERIAL and METHODS: The study included 29 male patients undergoing treatment for head and multiple organ traumas. Blood sample analysis was performed on the first, third, and seventh days after trauma.RESULTS: The mean age, duration of hospitalization in the intensive care unit, and intubation period of the study sample was 45 years (range: 9 to 81 years), 4.29 days, and 2.94 days, respectively. One patient died, and 13 underwent surgical intervention. Comparison of PON, TAS, TOS, and CRP levels showed statistically significant differences between the first day and the third and seventh days, although no such differences were seen in HDL levels. A moderately positive correlation was observed between CRP/ AST, CRP/ALT and CRP/GGT, while a moderately negative correlation was seen between CRP/ALP.CONCLUSION: The findings of this study suggest that some oxidative parameters may play a significant role in the prognosis and follow-up of intensive care patients. Moreover, biochemical markers can provide important information about patient response to trauma.

الوصف: DEVECI, HACI AHMET/0000-0002-5613-0520; ; WOS: 000427048800011 ; The aim of this study was to investigate paraoxonase (PON1) activity and total sialic acid to be measured for the first time in sheep infected naturally with foot and mouth disease, and their relationships with oxidative stress. A total of 30 Awassi sheep (aged between 2-4), which were healthy and infected with the foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) were used in the study. Concentrations of paraoxonase activity (PON1), which is an important antioxidant against oxidative stress, high density lipoprotein (HDL) and total sialic acid (TSA), which has a critical role for immune system and is one of the significant indicators of cellular degeneration, were measured in serum samples drawn from animals. The total oxidant capacity (TOC) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were evaluated to determine the oxidative balance. It was observed that serum PON1 (P < 0.001) and HDL (P < 0.01) concentrations were significantly lower compared to the control group. TSA concentration was higher in the infected group (P < 0.001) compared to the healthy group. TOC was higher (P < 0.001) and TAC was lower (P < 0.01) in the infected group compared to the control group. Consequently, harmful effects of the infection of foot and mouth disease were shown as cause of oxidative cell damage and the high rate of sialic acid was produced depending on the degeneration during the infection.
