الوصف: The goal of a series of papers is to define $G$-actions on various $A$-fibered structures, where $G$ is a finite group and $A$ is an abelian group. One prominent such example is the $A$-fibered Burnside ring. If $A=\mathbb{C}^\times$, it is also called the ring of monomial representations (introduced by Dress in \cite{Dress1971}) and is the natural home for the canonical induction formula (see \cite{Boltje1990}). In this first part of the series, motivated by constructions in \cite{BoucMutlu}, we introduce $A$-fibered structures on posets, on abstract simplicial complexes, and on $A$-bundles over topological spaces, together with natural notions of homotopy, and functors between these structures respecting homotopy. In a sequel we will continue with $G$-representations in these $A$-fibered structures and associate to them elements in the $A$-fibered Burnside ring.

الوصف: 3D printing technologies have matured to produce complex structures, still they are often limited to static materials. Introducing alkoxyamine bonds into 3D printed structures offers unprecedented possibilities for post-synthetic modification through nitroxide exchange reaction (NER) and nitroxide-mediated polymerization (NMP). This study provides a comprehensive molecular and macroscopic characterization of 3D printed alkoxyamine-containing dynamic covalent adaptable networks (CANs). Our study provides new insights into their dynamic structural and mechanical alterations, making them promising candidates for advanced applications ranging from biomedical engineering to flexible electronics.

الوصف: As the demand for sustainable polymers increases, most research efforts have focused on polyesters, which can be bioderived and biodegradable. Yet analogous polythioesters, where one of the oxygen atoms has been replaced by a sulfur atom, remain a relatively untapped source of potential. The incorporation of sulfur allows the polymer to exhibit a wide range of favorable properties, such as thermal resistance, degradability, and high refractive index. Polythioester synthesis represents a frontier in research, holding the promise of paving the way for eco‐friendly alternatives to conventional polyesters. Moreover, polythioester research can also open avenues to the development of sustainable and recyclable materials. In the last 25 years, many methods to synthesize polythioesters have been developed. However, to date no industrial synthesis of polythioesters has been developed due to challenges of costs, yields, and the toxicity of the by‐products. This review will summarize the recent advances in polythioester synthesis, covering step‐growth polymerization, ring‐opening polymerization (ROP), and biosynthesis. Crucially, the benefits and challenges of the processes will be highlighted, paying particular attention to their sustainability, with the aim of encouraging further exploration and research into the fast‐growing field of polythioesters.

الوصف: Advanced functional polymeric materials based on spiropyrans (SPs) feature multi-stimuli responsive characteristics, such as a change in color with exposure to light (photochromism) or acids (halochromism). The inclusion of stimuli-responsive molecules in general – and SPs in particular – as main-chain repeating units is a scarcely explored macromolecular architecture compared to side chain responsive polymers. Herein, we establish the effects of substitution patterns on SPs within a homopolymer main-chain synthesized via head-to-tail Acyclic Diene METathesis (ADMET) polymerization. We unambiguously demonstrate that varying the location of the ester group (–OCOR) on the chromophore, which is essential to incorporate the SPs in the polymer backbone, determines the photo- and halochromism of the resulting polymers. While one polymer shows effective photochromism and resistance towards acids, the opposite – weak photochromism and effective response to acid – is observed for an isomeric polymer, simply by changing the position of the ester-linker relative to the benzopyran oxygen on the chromene unit. Our strategy represents a simple approach to manipulate the stimuli-response of main-chain SP bearing polymers and highlights the critical importance of isomeric molecular constitution on main-chain stimuli-sensitive polymers as emerging materials.

الوصف: Alkali metal–sulfur batteries (particularly, lithium/sodium- sulfur (Li/Na–S)) have attracted much attention because of their high energy density, the natural abundance of sulfur, and environmental friendliness. However, Li/Na–S batteries still face big challenges, such as limited cycle life, poor conductivity, large volume changes, and the “shuttle effect” caused by the high solubility of Li/Na–polysulfides. Herein, novel organosulfur-containing materials, i.e., bis(4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)disulfide (BiTEMPS-OH) and 2,4-thiophene/arene copolymer (TAC) are proposed as cathode materials for Li and Na batteries. BiTEMPS-OH shows an initial discharge/charge capacity of 353/192 mAh g−1 and a capacity of 62 mAh g−1 after 200 cycles at 100 mA g−1 in ether-based Li-ion electrolyte. Meanwhile, TAC has an initial discharge/charge capacity of 270/248 mAh g−1 and better cycling performance (106 mAh g−1 after 200 cycles) than BiTEMPS-OH in the same electrolyte. However, the rate capability of TAC is limited by the slow diffusion of Li-ions. Both materials show inferior electrochemical performances in Na battery cells compared to the Li analogs. X-ray powder diffraction reveals that BiTEMPS-OH loses its crystalline structure permanently upon cycling in Li battery cells. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrates the cleavage and partially reversible formation of S−S bonds in BiTEMPS-OH and the formation/decomposition of thick solid electrolyte interphase on the electrode surface of TAC.

الوصف: Let $G$ be a finite group, and $C$ be an abelian group. We introduce the notions of $C$-monomial $G$-sets and $C$-monomial $G$-posets, and state some of their categorical properties. This gives in particular a new description of the $C$-monomial Burnside ring $B_C(G)$. We also introduce Lefschetz invariants of $C$-monomial $G$-posets, which are elements of $B_C(G)$. These invariants allow for a definition of a generalized tensor induction multiplicative map $\mathcal{T}_{U,\lambda}: B_C(G)\to B_C(H)$ associated to any $C$-monomial $(G,H)$-biset $(U,\lambda)$, which in turn gives a group homomorphism $B_C(G)^\times\to B_C(H)^\times$ between the unit groups of $C$-monomial Burnside rings.

الوصف: Applying Robert Boltje's theory of canonical induction, we give a restriction-preserving formula expressing any $p$-permutation module as a $\mathbb{Z}[1/p]$-linear combination of modules induced and inflated from projective modules associated with subquotient groups. The underlying constructions include, for any given finite group, a ring with a $\mathbb{Z}$-basis indexed by conjugacy classes of triples $(U, K, E)$ where $U$ is a subgroup, $K$ is a $p'$-residue-free normal subgroup of $U$ and $E$ is an indecomposable projective module of the group algebra of $U/K$.

الوصف: Conventional and sonication-assisted biosorption of Remazol Orange RGB dye by active kefir biomass was investigated. SEM, FTIR and BET analyses were used to characterise the biomass. Experiments were carried out in batch mode and the effects of pH, initial dye concentration and temperature on dye removal were examined. Biosorption of dye increased with the rise in temperature and the reduce in initial pH and initial concentration of dye in both processes. At all examined conditions due to the assistance of sonication higher biosorption yields were obtained. 74.62% and 95.18% dye removals were achieved at pH 2, initial dye concentration of 100 mg L-1 and 25℃ for conventional and sonication assisted biosorption that the equilibrium was attained respectively in 210 and 45 minutes. It was determined that the conventional biosorption process could be expressed with the pseudo first order kinetic model and the sonication assisted biosorption process could be expressed with the pseudo second order kinetic model, while the biosorption equilibrium for both processes could be expressed with the Langmuir isotherm model. The isotherm model showed that the maximum biosorption capacity values of kefir biomass in conventional and sonication assisted biosorption were 90.33 mg/g and 107.99 mg/g, respectively. Thermodynamic analysis confirmed that the biosorption processes are spontaneous, endothermic and physical in nature. The results demonstrated that sonication is an effective and useful method to improve the biosorption processes with living organisms.
