الوصف: Abstract In patients with COPD, it has not been comprehensively assessed whether the predictive value of comorbidities for mortality differs between men and women. We therefore aimed to examine sex differences of COPD comorbidities in regard with prognosis by classifying comorbidities into a comorbidome related to extrapulmonary disorders and a pulmorbidome, referring to pulmonary disorders. The study population comprised 1044 women and 1531 men with the diagnosis of COPD from COSYCONET, among them 2175 of GOLD grades 1–4 and 400 at risk. Associations of comorbidities with mortality were studied using Cox regression analysis for men and women separately. During the follow-up (median 3.7 years) 59 women and 159 men died. الوصف: A printed edge-fed counterpart of wire Bruce array antenna, with open-stopband mitigation at broadside, is presented. The proposed antenna comprises of 11 meandered unit-cells periodically modulated in congruence with wire Bruce array antenna's theory. To mitigate the effects of open-stopband, the horizontal and vertical lengths of unit-cell are adjusted along with the addition of an inward bent element allowing seamless scanning from backward to forward endfire region. The antenna has two distinct frequency scanning ranges between 18.0 GHz and to 37.20 GHz with Sidelobe level ≤ -10 dB. A dual Bruce array, using two-way Klopfenstein tapered feedline power divider, is then proposed to increase the peak realized gain to 18.61 dBi followed by a two-port solution to widen the scanning range of the antenna.

الوصف: This paper investigates design considerations and challenges of integrating on-chip antennas in nanoscale CMOS technology at millimeter-wave (mm-wave) to achieve a compact front-end receiver for 5G communication systems. Solutions to overcome these challenges are offered and realized in digital 28-nm CMOS. A monolithic on-chip antenna is designed and optimized in the presence of rigorous metal density rules and other back-end-of-the-line (BEoL) challenges of the nanoscale technology. The proposed antenna structure further exploits ground metallization on a PCB board acting as a reflector to increase its radiation efficiency and power gain by 37.3% and 9.8 dB, respectively, while decreasing the silicon area up to 30% compared to the previous works. The antenna is directly matched to a two-stage low noise amplifier (LNA) in a synergetic way as to give rise to an active integrated antenna (AIA) in order to avoid additional matching or interconnect losses. The LNA is followed by a double-balanced folded Gilbert cell mixer, which produces a lower intermediate frequency (IF) such that no probing is required for measurements. The measured total gain of the AIA is 14 dBi. Its total core area is 0.83 mm2 while the total chip area, including the pad frame, is 1.55 × 0.85 mm2.

A line of small metal spheres is employed as a test pattern in the calibration process to measure the position shift caused by undesired antenna effects. The unwanted effects in the antenna near-field responses are analysed, modelled and significantly mitigated based on the symmetry and differences in the responses of the MIMO configuration.

الوصف: Bispecific antibodies (bsAbs) that bind to cell surface antigens and to digoxigenin (Dig) were used for targeted small interfering RNA (siRNA) delivery. They are derivatives of immunoglobulins G (IgGs) that bind tumor antigens, such as Her2, IGF1-R, CD22, and LeY, with stabilized Dig-binding variable domains fused to the C-terminal ends of the heavy chains. siRNA that was digoxigeninylated at its 3′end was bound in a 2:1 ratio to the bsAbs. These bsAb–siRNA complexes delivered siRNAs specifically to cells that express the corresponding antigen as demonstrated by flow cytometry and confocal microscopy. The complexes internalized into endosomes and Dig-siRNAs separated from bsAbs, but Dig-siRNA was not released into the cytoplasm; bsAb-targeting alone was thus not sufficient for effective mRNA knockdown. This limitation was overcome by formulating the Dig-siRNA into nanoparticles consisting of dynamic polyconjugates (DPCs) or into lipid-based nanoparticles (LNPs). The resulting complexes enabled bsAb-targeted siRNA-specific messenger RNA (mRNA) knockdown with IC50 siRNA values in the low nanomolar range for a variety of bsAbs, siRNAs, and target cells. Furthermore, pilot studies in mice bearing tumor xenografts indicated mRNA knockdown in endothelial cells following systemic co-administration of bsAbs and siRNA formulated in LNPs that were targeted to the tumor vasculature.

الوصف: The stone towns of the Swahili Coast are a visible reminder of once prosperous kingdoms who had built their wealth on the Indian Ocean trade. From the 19th century onward the coins found numerously at some of these towns intrigued European travellers and scholars alike. Initially, it was believed that they were remnants, like the stone towns, of a colonial Arab or Persian culture. At first only copper coins were known, with the majority coming from stray . finds from the beaches of the eroding settlements. These copper coins had Arabic writing on them spelling out a rhyming legend which continued from one side to the other. They were ascribed to the Sultans of Kilwa, while similar coins were believed to originate in ;Zanzibar. Little though was understood regarding their origin and they were primarily seen as a means to better understand the chronology of Kilwa. It is now clear that these copper coins were preceded by minute silver coins, similar in their designs and legends to the copper coins. 'Although it is clear that the silver and copper coins are an interrelated coinage, many issues remain regarding their chronology and development. There is no detailed study that has looked at this East African coinage as whole. It is here that this thesis finds its place. In the light of new archaeological material and with the results of XRF analysis carried out on the copper coins, it investigates the issues surrounding the origin, chronology and purpose of this coinage. It tries to understand the coinage not only from the perspective of the Indian Ocean, but also in its much neglected African context.

الوصف: Refined optimization of complex curve–linear-shaped radiators, such as traveling-wave Vivaldi antennas, can be achieved by considering simulated near fields to interpret in detail the structural influences of a design. The relationships between the space and time distributions of electromagnetic (EM) energy clusters and the geometric features are revealed with appropriate use of impulse response analysis combined with the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. This article reports a deeper approach when applied to the adjustment of the geometric features of a traveling-wave antenna based on an analysis of near-field propagation features.
